What Does IGN Want in Black Ops? IGN give a detailed breakdown of what they want to see in Call of Duty: Black Ops. We all know what we want to see in Black Ops. From a longer campaign mode to YouTube support, I think we can all say that there's some stuff we agree with and some stuff we don't. Either way, make sure you check out what they want below! Remember that these wishes aren't necessary the opinions and thoughts of Treyarch but rather that of IGN, therefore it doesn't mean than any of this is confirmed to be in the game but rather wished to be in the game. The wishes and opinions are that of Brian Miggels and Brian Altano, two Call of Duty fanatics at IGN. Longer Campaign Mode- It's no surprise that the first thing they wish to be in Black Ops is a longer campaign mode. Call of Duty 4 and World at War seemed to have reasonable campaigns in terms of length, whereas Modern Warfare 2 lacked the length that people had hoped for. Question is, would you rather an action-packed campaign or a long one? IGN's Brian Altano prefers an epic single player story in first-person shooter gamers rather than the ever popular multiplayer modes. A reason he thinks this is because of the many screaming children that plague online play nowadays. He also notices how the majority of gamers sadly skip single player and focus on multiplayer instead, which is a shame because "the franchise has continuously provided an excellently paced, albeit way too short, series of single player campaigns over the last few years". To further back up his wish for a longer campaign, he goes on to say "why hire actors, create detailed environments and script out a story when it's all over so fast"? Altano would love to see "a more elaborate, slightly slower paced single player campaign that favored depth and story over people screaming at me and telling me to run towards things before, after and while they explode". Branching Quests- The next thing that IGN wish to see in Black Ops is branching quests. They compare this to Goldeneye 007 for the N64 which allowed you to play on different difficulty settings in single player. These different settings meant "branching paths with distinctly unique objectives, environment exploration and gadgets to interact with". They feel that Black Ops would benefit from a similar structure and give the player a reason to revisit single player multiple times. A few ideas that he mentions includes giving the players some cool unlockable rewards for single player and multiplayer after they've completed the story on different difficulty settings. A Robust Zombie Mode- And of course, what would be a wish list without the most popular request from the community? IGN want a robust Zombie mode. They mentioned about how popular the mode was and how Treyarch continuously updated the longevity of it with 2 map packs which introduced new ways to play. Whether that be with perks, pack a punch guns, teleporters and more. Not to forget the story that they implemented into the game which made eager fans more and more enthusiastic about the mode. Therefore, it would be confusing as to why they wouldn't include or expand on the mode. But what's interesting is that IGN want to see more from the "Zombie multiplayer modes in Black Ops" such as team deathmatch with undead bystanders or objective based survival scenarios with lots of new maps. Sci-fi Weapons- This wish may come as a bit of a surprise, but not so much considering World at War brought science fiction weapons into the series with the introduction of a ray gun and "Wunderwaffe DG-2" in the Nazi Zombie mode. Although they mention that the series has gone over the top in previous times, many will feel that these weapons are too far fetched. The series may have Nazi Zombies and ray guns but surely adding science fiction weapons into a realistic and competitive gritty multiplayer mode is a tad too far? No Tanks- And the dreadful vehicle that many hope will not be in Black Ops as IGN share the same feeling, they hope that the game will have no tanks. Call of Duty: World at War had tanks on specific maps but often turned the game into a camp and tank fest. People could sit in a tank for ages and bag a lot of easy kills while your teammates fail to work together to blow the tank up with a rocket launcher or C4. This was a gameplay mechanic that seemed to uneven the play and led many to shout it's "unbalanced". It's a known fact that vehicles will be in multiplayer for Black Ops but Treyarch keep mentioning that it will be unlike ever before. YouTube Support- Ever since the teaser trailer » showed off the new recording feature, the community got a sudden burst of excitement. But many questions still remain as to how this features works and where will we be able to upload our videos, whether it be on CoDHQ, YouTube or somewhere else. IGN is hoping for YouTube support. Hopefully more details about the feature will be revealed at the Multiplayer reveal event this September 1st. Squad Up- World at War had a feature that allowed players to squad up with teammates, either by creating a party before matchmaking or through the in-game menu options when a game has started. This feature meant that your squad-mates show up as blue arrows on the radar (and blue gamertags) but the leader could also set waypoints for where he wants his squad to go. The feature also meant that if someone didn't join their party when matchmaking then they can join their squad through the match menus, which means that those in the squad will remain on the same team for each match. This was a very good and useful feature that sadly weren't in Modern Warfare 2, hopefully it will return to Black Ops. Ditch the Monster Closets- One of the biggest annoyances that has ever plagued Call of Duty's single player is enemy respawns. IGN hopes that Black Ops will "ditch the monster closets". They believe that the "difficulty setting in the game seemed like it was directly related to the amount of enemies that would attack you over the course of the level". They also note that the player never really knew if they had to battle through a wave of enemies or if more enemies would continue coming until you pass a certain checkpoint. Modern Warfare 2 seemed to fix the issue as it replaced the "unstoppable monster closets with strategically placed enemies" and it would be cool if the same fix happened throughout future titles, including Black Ops. As IGN mention, it's better to use strategy to overcome a level rather than running to a checkpoint or firing a lot of bullets into a mass of enemies. Respect the Subject Matter- Although IGN have talked about sci-fi weapons and zombies, their final wish is focused on the serious stuff in single player and respecting the subject matter. After being skeptical due to hearing the game features Vietnam War inspired battles, IGN hopes that Treyarch pulls it off successfully because there aren't many ways that the subject matter can be handled sensitively. They also hope that Treyarch knows how controversial the subject matter is and that it's important they've researched thoroughly as well as to respect the politics and people involved. And that concludes IGN's wish list » for Call of Duty: Black Ops! What do you think of their suggestions, opinions and comments? What are your wishes for the game?
