Agreed.

The train itself is very cool, it's my favorite on Kino. It's just a bit problematic in co-op, very sporadic spawns without a system in it. Sometimes 5 at a time come in, then just no one, then 1 every 10 seconds... Leads to pretty unorganized situations. But in solo, very awesome. The key is that 3/4 spawns + all nova spawns are downstairs, as well the guys from the upstair spawn will also walk down just at the beginning. So that gives you an easy time upstairs to gather them up. I would never do it like so. 40-45 seconds a wave  I would try to shoot at the M14 after the little compressing half circle and sprint back down. You'll probably miss some nova's and it might be a bit tricky until you are back in your move, because they start to spawn fast. But I could imagine it working.

Does Scenery Have an Effect on Gameplay?
Tom852 replied to Ehjookayted's topic in General Zombies Discussion
My favorite looking map is Shangri La. Summer jungle safari feeling, just really really cool. It is for sure a major reason, I like that map so much. On the other hand, we have NDU, Verruckt, and Kino. I do not like those. This wooden-greyish color scheme is not my thing. I also do not like Nazi zombies, they are too... rectanglish. I do also think, that it has an influence in your subconsciousness. You can ask hands, he thinks I play better on Shangri than on easy maps, and it might be true. I just feel suddenly in my dream home, when I play Shangri. I guess it plays a greater role than we think, but just in our subconsciousness. I mean you focus on your play, and not on the textures. But it still seems to make a difference on how you play. I mean just have a look at this: You buy the bowie, and you get a ton of hits, you might even die once or twice. Then you can afford jug. Now, you won't get a single hit anymore, although you could afford it now. I mean whats that? You feel safe with jug, you take a bit more risk, and you play better. Couldn't it also be the textures, sounds and the environment, that give you certain feelings that affect your style of play? I think so. I'd like to stay zombies as it is, realistic with formalistic elements. That's just what it needs. I especially like, that they got away from that zombie cliche with the darkness in lonely decaying houses and stuff as in NDU to Kino. Zombies in the snow, in the sun, on the moon, thats cool. -
grats! Very nice.

I'm using specialist too. But my Assault Favs are: Package: 70-80% chance of getting a higher than 4 killstreak, pretty worthwhile. Predator: Just the best to work towards higher streaks. Chopper: Always good. Reaper: Only 9 kills, pretty strong and not too hard to get. AC-130: Very fun.

weird. maybe cause the turret killed it??? wait... check this. I once did that while Mule was not yet added. I got a bottle, but of course then no 6th perk, because mule was not invented yet. @ 23:20 B8Pw76CRhwk

I had some new ideas and added the videos in the first post. I think this is growing towards a good collection by time. I'm still open for your ideas ;)

I have not tested, if you lose a perk when thrown at a machine. But I'm pretty sure that you must not be afraid of it. First, there is the red perk bottle as the perk-taking element, that's why I believe there is no second perk-taking element. Second, in case it really is possible to lose a perk when thrown at the machine, I'd expect the risk being extremely low. See the new spoiler in the "Comments" section. Decide yourself The guns that shoot in a circle are: LAW, Spas, Python, Chinalake, Ray Gun. And yeah, wall gun's don't spawn as power ups. Since I played solo, I couldn't test this player radius / QED radius thing. However, if you watch closely, the QED seems to shoot out some kind of light barrier, causing a flash in your screen when it hits you, in a circle. Don't know how far this 'light barrier' goes. Reviving was not tested too in solo But that's true, it can do that in coop, quite common when thrown at a downed. I just can say, you see me getting mule kick in the vid, although the QED is about 1m-2m away. So it must not be thrown super precise. And yeah, in NML you don't get extra wave drops and stuff, but it will always do something. Yep, had that too. But you can also see in the beginning of the vid, that without a zombie being around, the QED itself can make a power up spawning.

Right now, in this moment: 1. Shangri La 2. COTD 3. Ascension 4. Shi No Numa 5. Kino der Toten 6. Five 7. Verrückt 8. NDU 9. DOA 10. Moon 11. No Man's Land 12. Der Riese Why is that? I played Der Riese recently. I think I was drunk, but god damn. I never wanna play this map again. NML, restart restart restart. Moon, I threw 1000 QED's yesterday, can't see this map right now. FIVE went a bit down, since hands' strategy was a bit boring and it was annoying to keep the other 2 players in that pap room. Shangri went up, cause hands showed me a nice 2ppl strategy that I wanna redo. COTD went up since I like the map and haven't played it in a while.

Hi my beloved community. So, we all know there is a lot of mysterious never ever seen QED effects. So I just wondered, what does this QED do and how often. So I just threw about 1000 pieces and took notes. Some effects can only take place, if the QED is thrown at a certain object or in a certain moment, so its a bit hard to give general probabilities. As well, 1000 pieces are not enough for this here. So its not accurate. So just read all of the post please. Test environment Solo, mostly Round 1, various areas, short throwing distance. Godmode & give ammo used, of course. Probabilities of effects, that do not depend where or when you throw the QED Frag Grenade: 5% Semtex Grenade: 5% Astro Explosion: 45% Teleport: 3.5% Spinning Gun: 20% -Spinning Ray: 12% -Spinning LAW: 2% -Spinning Spas 2% -Spinning China 2% -Spinning Python: 2% --A felt 50% chance of the spinning gun being upgraded. Gun Power Up Drop: 15% -Chance for upgraded gun: not measured, by feeling 50% -Each gun has probably an equal chance of dropping, but see here for details of the measurement. This is not representative. Non-Gun Powerups: -Points Green: 3.5% -Points Red: 1% -Perk Red: 0.25% -Ammo Red: 0.25% Pap my current gun: 0.25% Probabilities of effects, that need a certain QED throwing *thrown at end of wave -->Extra Zombie wave not measured, by feeling 20% (1/5), 25% (1/4), or 33% (1/3) *thrown when regular power ups still can be dropped -->Drop a regular power up, such as double points, insta kill and so on approximately 5% This seems to be likely to happen, however it's neither a flood of those regular power ups. It was hard to measure that, because I played 90% of the test in the same round, in which I already got 4 drops, so any further were obviously blocked. Further shorter test showed, that when you haven't got 4 drops yet, it is quite likely to happen, as said about 1/20. What this tells us, is that the QED also follows the normal power up rules, such as max 4 per round. Most likely it also follows the 'the more points the more drops' rule. *thrown when lab (or probably also spawn) windows are not yet broken -->Break that window Tested once, needed approximately 30-50 QED's, which would imply a risk of something around 1-5%. *thrown at door -->Open it About 10% chance to open on average. I opened 6 doors. The amount of QED's needed was: 3, >20, 2, 6, 15, 10, 30. [>20: aborted that one] *thrown at Perk machine -->Give me that perk About 1% I earned 3 free perks. The amount of QED's needed was: 69, 56, ~150 Comments [*:q1yz5qy0]Wall Guns are not dropped as power ups from the QED. [*:q1yz5qy0]I can't say anything about coop. Will all players get the free perk / the gun upgraded? Or do they have to be in a certain radius? Which player is teleported? I can't tell... [*:q1yz5qy0]Points you get from Point drops: It will give you random points between 500 and 2500, average 1500. [*:q1yz5qy0]Points lost from red Point drops: I'm not sure about that, since I didn't get too many of those. I lost between 500 and 1500. [*:q1yz5qy0]When 2x is active, you get twice the points from the Bonus Point drops. However, negative points will not be doubled. [*:q1yz5qy0]The mysterious white/blueish power ups: see spoiler, its long True 'myths' [*:q1yz5qy0]Yes, you can get 2 Rays, in solo and in coop, with the QED. One papped, one unpapped. [*:q1yz5qy0]Yes, you can get gun drops of guns, that you already own. For example, you get a papped ray although you already have a papped ray. When you take it, it seems, that the system takes away your secondary gun and leaves you only your papped ray. Weird, but that was what happened to me. [*:q1yz5qy0]Yes, the zombies will pick up the red drops. You have to prevent them picking that stuff up. [*:q1yz5qy0]Yes, you can have 5 perks. Most likely you can also have 8. Not sure, what about Quick Revive, since you should only be able to get 3 of them. [*:q1yz5qy0]Yes, whenever the QED kills zombies, including with Astro Explosion, you can get power ups from the zombies the QED killed. Myths that are still claimed to be true or that I'm not sure about, although I've never seen them happening [*:q1yz5qy0]Many users say, that the Q.E.D. can do nothing. I have never experienced this. Note that some effects can be very sneaky and hard to notice, such as when another player gets teleported by your Q.E.D. and he doesn't say anything and he is not in your view. It seems to you as it would do nothing. A simple nade effect in the middle of a big train in later rounds might seem as nothing, since damage is too low, and the zombies cover the smoke and cause you are already shooting you don't hear it. All I can say is that I had always something happen in my tries. [*:q1yz5qy0]When thrown at a horde, the horde gets angry similar to George, sprinting very fast. [*:q1yz5qy0]It can downgrade your weapon. Well, it never happened to me. However, I got also only 2 upgrades. So it might be possible, but just super ultra rare. [*:q1yz5qy0]Within ~50 tries, even in an area that would not have me locked out, the QED didn't close a door. [*:q1yz5qy0]Makes Astronaut Zombies become on your side and charge at Zombies. That sounds wrong to me, but I haven't tested that. [*:q1yz5qy0]Similar to earning a perk, it can take you away when thrown at that machine. Not tested, but I guess not, because there is already the red perk bottle. However, in case that exists the risk is very low anyway. Myths that are wrong Please show us proof or correct this in viewtopic.php?f=72&t=16357 [*:q1yz5qy0]Several medium sized explosions / matryoshka doll explosion. That doesnt exist. When the spinning law is kinda hidden behind some wall or something, or it is spinning in a narrow passage, it could feel like Matryoshka stuff, but it isnt. [*:q1yz5qy0]Gersh Device Effect. Just never ever seen. [*:q1yz5qy0]Scavenger Explosion. Nope. [*:q1yz5qy0]Green perk bottle. No. What you do is, you throw the QED at the perk machine, and then you get this ~1% chance of receiving that specific perk. But you don't receive a perk bottle. You just get the perk directly. You just have it, without picking up a perk bottle. [*:q1yz5qy0]Points go down to zero at red Point drop. Na, at least not in solo. I lost between 500 and 1500 each time they picked it up. Might also be max 2500 you loose. [*:q1yz5qy0]If you run in a red drop, the effect will take place. No, you can't pick up red drops. You can run straight thru it, and nothing will happen. The drop stays available, and is not picked up. Only zombies can pick them drops up. [*:q1yz5qy0]Red ammo = all ammo gone. No, all it does it empties the mag of your current gun. So you have to reload instantly. But thats it, just the clip is emptied, the ammo stock stays available. And your secondary is not touched. [*:q1yz5qy0]It showed, that red drops cannot be hacked. Stuff I learned [*:q1yz5qy0]A nice 50% chance of killing a whole train due to Astro Explosion. [*:q1yz5qy0]~15% risk of blowing up the spawn area during the easter egg. [*:q1yz5qy0]Ridiculous chances of getting a certain gun you just need, but good chances to get any gun. So throw QEDs at beginning as much as you can! [*:q1yz5qy0]If you have enough of those things, just feel free to try to open a door. [*:q1yz5qy0]Pretty much no danger of losing ammo/perk due to a red ammo/perk. And in case you get a red points, who cares about those 1000. [*:q1yz5qy0]Don't expect to get a super special effect like a free perk or a papped gun. [*:q1yz5qy0]Well known both worth to mention: Never throw them at the end of a round, or just if you can afford (or maybe even need) an extra wave. [*:q1yz5qy0]After getting guns I already owned... This could be a legit way to get multiple Wave Guns in one game. However, not sure. [*:q1yz5qy0]And my major thing I learned: If you have too many QEDs and need to waste them things: Throw them at a perk machine! Videos Most rare or special effects: QTrTZ9ZeCGk Throwing glitch, where you loose a QED and it does like nothing, however it does not nothing, it is just not thrown at all. Cool post! The host migration irritated me like hell As hands says, we don't have that. What I understand by host migration is, that if the host leaves ingame, one of the other players is chosen as host and the game continues, instead of ending the game. And yeah, I'd love that. b83rt34mY8g

I'm not sure... Just thinking about the nose path, the air can take. Plus the pressure might just blow your mouth open - like vacuums can blow up balloons?
-
Sure thing.
-
This is not a glitch for me, however something that should be fixed by the programmers. Sounds pretty funny, having all zombies at one window. I heard somewhere once, that if you make 2 3 crawlers in front of the windows, the zombies behind cant even reach you anymore... That then be quite a questionable play However, it still won't take you to 50 or what so ever.
-
I'd like to see Ascension first room challenge of you ;)
-
Well, the whole zombie game itself is pointless Maybe you wanna try to reach a freaking high round in solo or coop. You could also do challenges, such as stay in first room, buy no perks, use only shotguns, and so on. Just create your own challenge, that might make you fun. For example, I once did a Pack a Punch in Round 4 (or was it 5, don't remember), as an extension of the given achievement. Or just think about, how you can improve your strategy. Especially monkey strategies open a lot of options. So think about how you could loose not a single perk for sure, even in solo. And then test your stuff. Then share it However stuff like that has already been done and is on Youtube, but maybe for you personally, some things work well whereas its not on youtube, because it's generally not so good. But the best thing you could do would probably be indeed, to do the easter egg. It's pretty funny with some friends and is exactly that thing, what gives you a target on the map. And it's really fun to work for that target. Just get a good, funny team together, then you'll have your reason to play the map. You feel the motivation of the other guys, you can take the role of the leader, so you have a new job too... It's really cool! Do it!

COME AND FIND ME-SAMANTHA EASTER EGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tom852 replied to Rattlehead55's topic in Ascension
Use those 5 yours to chill, lean back, take a smoke and a drink. And don't think about this. That's all help I can give you. The egg is over! [*:xd0au723]What Jake-Duck said. [*:xd0au723]Thousands of people researching this topic intensely, without a single result - every single idea has been disproved. [*:xd0au723]No single random guy has ever detected something without doing active research (e.g. some dude would at a 99.99% probability once throw a Gersh by accident out there for step one. After more than a year, it would be most likely, that the mysterious additional step would have been discovered just by accident. [*:xd0au723]The easter eggs from COTD, Shangri and Moon where solved within a few yours. OK maybe COTD coop took 2 days or so, but it still fast. But you can't claim, that Ascension is not solved after 400 days. [*:xd0au723]The psychology of the egg tells in some way, that it goes on. Especially the "come find me" and the Death Machines. 3arc tells you, that you should use the death machines to find Samantha. But it's misunderstood. The death machines are your reward, and don't fulfill a certain purpose on a next step. The "come find me" is a story related thing, like a super radio message, that tells you, that the team (Richtofen) needs to find Samantha, as we can see on Moon. 3arc was searching their Easter Egg thing. Just follow the reward logic, they slowly put down their shyness. The reward chronology is: Achievement - Deatch Machines timed - Wunderwaffe not timed - Perks for one - Perks for all. Makes all sense. -
Well, I have a really hard time to believe that, but it seems to be true I am just wondering. I have heard once somewhere, that we always keep about 1 liter air in our lungs, even if max breathed out. And that is, that all the tubes in there don't get together and clotty. Now I wonder, if a vacuum doesn't suck out all of your air out of your lungs instantly and leading to this cause...

Another reason to switch to PC bind HOME "fast_restart" No but seriously, if I'm after a 300+ and get 10 times in a row Speed, I'm out of it and leave it. I want the game to test my skills, and not my patience. I mean even if you get your jug, what most likely happens is, that you get about 1200 points when the first signal sound goes off....
-
Good job! I still can't understand why people like this challenge I just don't have the patience to do the 30 restarts until the environment (jug, spawn behavior) fits well enough for a 300+

Moon Vs Ascension, which is easier solo?
Tom852 replied to MegaAfroMan's topic in General Zombies Discussion
I go with Ascension too. The weird, slow zombie spawn on Moon (Dome) makes me too impatient, leading to mistakes. -
I'm a bit worried if the ones applying know, what a huge work and responsibility it is to run such a site... I've made my own experience as a web administrator including a phpBB board. In such a big community, its not only about the technical things, also a lot of leader abilities are needed. Not everyone is able, to delegate work properly. I'm just very surprised, that you make such an open thread here to apply. I think, someone for such a huge responsibility should be chosen by the current staff very very carefully. He should also be informed very detailed, what's going on here and what he has to expect. Please choose carefully! I'm seriously worried, that some *whatever* is gonna claim he is the super hero in web administration, but will then actually have no clue. I personally trust and respect 2 or 3 of the people that applied here enough for such a job, but is everyone of them really knowing, how this whole thing here works? PS: I pay for my hoster 80$ a year However, I'm not sure if it could handle all the mysql accesses like here once a new map pack comes out :)
-
A common solo strategy was just to make every zombie a crawler, most likely at the spawn or so, and then run to power and shoot down.

Z Rankings [Higher Rank = More Easter Eggs]
Tom852 replied to The_Librarian's topic in Single Player
Well, I think it is not necessary. It is just something that makes people say "I'm better than you". The leaderboards are a way better reference. For rewards it might be something. But I still don't like it. -
Of course it is nice to know about all these things and investigating them. joshs, I'm didn't want to say it's wrong to post that. I am annoyed, that every answer is sounding like that would be something legit. And sorry I was freaking out of this little "my gun" thing. But lets get it clear first: I understand by a glitch two things. First: You do something that is possible, but not meant by the developers. Abusing little programming faults for little advantages. The key of my definition is: Not meant by the developer. For example, going onto the table on FIVE. It (was) possible, but obviously the programmers meant to play the game differently. Second: It is just a general fault in the game, that you cannot take influence on. Crashing games, score not saved on the leaderboards, no round starts anymore after teleporting, and so on. So when I say glitching, I normally mean now the first thing. Lets see an example to get into the problematic: View 1: When you already have a ray gun, the box won't give you another. So you are not meant to have 2 ray guns. View 2: But if I hack a ray gun for you, other people are meant to be able to take that hacked gun. So you ARE meant to have 2 ray guns. It is controversial. I can everywhere say: It is possible to do it, so the developers meant to play it like so. How should I know, what the developers wanted and what they didn't want. This is a matter of interpretation. So it is very individual. One might say something is legit, whereas the other says its totally glitching. Some things are very obvious glitching, others are in the grey zone, others are obviously legit. 2 Hacker There is one device lying there, not two. If I take it on my own, it disappears. No other player can have a hacker, unless I put my hacker back. So, the game wants only one guy to have the hacker. You can abuse the programming fault, that some 'device no longer available' instruction for the game is reacting too slow. I say, you are not meant to have 2 hackers, and that is why I say it is glitching. 2 Wave Guns Since the very early maps we know: One wondergun for one man. One gun comes out of the box. A powerup is taken by one person (good to compare it with deathmachine). As the description said, you can irritate the game somehow [as said, I don't see how it makes sense]. But the point is, you irritate the game in some way, so that now both guys can profit from that box-gun-powerup. Making it possible to break those 'one wonder for one guy' constant. So it's a glitch. 2 Ray Guns See above. One pro argument, one contra argument. The game doesn't want to have you two equal guns, but allows one papped and one unpapped. This is one for the grey zone. For my interpretation, it's rather bright then dark grey, so ok to do it. Legitimization It is not consequent, if you say, that the advantage is just minor, therefore who should care if its a glitch or not. Hacking own drops is easy. Gersh out, hack, there is your ammo. But when you have to call me over to hack it, since only I have the hacker: I have to search your location and the drop. It already starts to blink, I get stressed, I hurry, my ping is high, the "Hacking..." message comes delayed, I run into the power up. We are both out of ammo, last gersh just wasted... We die. Round 52 instead of 75. So how was that with the minor advantage? We could create a similar story for the wave thing, as you already started something with the game over at 50 if they wave holder dies. Just because FIVE is hard, it was never legit to hop on the table. And just because you don't like the EE and jug is on earth, it's still not getting more legit to use minor glitches. I hope you can understand my point, cause I can also understand yours very well. I say again: This is very controversial and individual. In some way, I can also say, 2 Waves or 2 Hackers, why should I care. I just tried to take a point and represent it. Whatsoever, why do I even have to write this.... A game should be made so, that everyone has the same circumstances. What we have now is some player go to 70 with 2hacker and a glitched out astro, the other reach 70 with one hacker and a moonwalk astro. And both say, they played legit, and both played legit - as said, it's a thing of interpretation if 2 hackers are legit or not. I'm not blaming anyone but 3arc. It's not our thing to find out what is glitching and what not. 3arc is supposed to pick out everything they don't wanna have in the game, so everyone has to play under the same circumstances. That they don't do that, THIS is what makes me angry and why I got freaked out up this thread.
