  1. I do not believe the characters were captured in 1917. For one thing, we know for a fact that Verruckt took place in 1945. We also know that Dempsey was one of the playable Marines in that map, sent to rescue Peter. THAT is when he was captured, not 1917. The timeline doesn't match up. We know from the CotD radios that Dempsey was captured after Nikolai and Takeo, so it's technically possible that those two were captured in 1917, but it would make more sense that they were captured around the same time Dempsey was.
  2. Very interesting. Sounds American, like Grill said, so maybe this one is Dempsey? Again though, he seems too young to have been involved in such "top-secretey" stuff back in '17. Plus, he's using bigger words than he would normally use. But then again, one of Richtofen's radios reported that Dempsey got more violent as a result of the experiments, in much the same way that Nikolai became an alcoholic. So maybe we're seeing some calmer Dempsey from the past? This is already too weird, and I haven't even started talking about the giant metal men in Northern France
  3. I'm starting to feel pretty bad about myself guys... Everyone's saying that Buried is much easier than Mob, but I got to 69 on Mob (suicide) and I can't break 50 on Buried... I can't lie, I find Buried hard to train on. I know we've been spoiled lately with gratuitously large training spots, but come on, Shang was easier to train on than this! (debatable but still) That being said, I like the challenge. Overall I do think this is my favorite Black Ops 2 map. Kinda sucks that no one seems to agree, but hey, I've also met very few people whose favorite map is Shangri-La, so I guess I'm kinda used to being the odd man out ;)
  4. Shangri-La will most likely be my favorite map forever. Of the maps that came after it, Buried came the closest to beating it out as my number 1. Der Reise is my runner up, cause I mean, it's Der Reise. :D
  5. The thing with the time travel explanation though, is that it gives Treyarch creative freedom to create a map almost anywhere they want. They understand that the hardcore fans like us want an incredibly in-depth story, and they give us that, but their first priority is creating fun maps in awesome locales. Buried, for example. Someone at Treyarch probably said, "it would be cool to do an Old Western themed map." Someone else said, "but that wouldn't fit in with the storyline." "Hmm, true, but it would be a cool location and a fun experience, so we should make it fit into the story." Time-space rift. Old Western town underground. Problem solved. Gameplay > anything else
  6. Well see, that's a different question. The poll is asking what you want on round 1. There's a large difference between round 1 and round 20. On round 20, I completely agree with this, although, I'm unlikely to hit the box. I would just by a wall gun and save up for Jugg, then maybe Double Tap, and THEN I'd hit the box. Priorities for me in a game: wall gun 4 perks box guns
  7. Ahh, see, funny thing about crossing your own timeline...
  8. Shout out to people like Eternal who can figure this stuff out from two notes. However, one thing is bugging me: why would Richtofen choose now to go back to Tunguska? Wouldn't that be something he had done before, back when he was with 935? He must be smart enough to know what would trap him in a loop, why would he go trap himself in one anyways? Unless it's the voices in his head telling him to...
  9. I would also be pissed if it were a prequel map. Leaving us hanging with TWO possible cliffhanger endings would not be cool. With Takeo's note, I'm starting to see a pattern with the letters, and although I thought the first letter may have been from Maxis, I can now see it being (pre-insanity) Richtofen. My biggest problem is, how old were these characters in 1917? We know that they all fought in WWII, almost 30 years later. Takeo, I can see being that old. The other three? Ehh, maybe. Would a young Richtofen be let in on something that top-secret though? Things just don't make sense to me yet.
  10. Permanent Tombstone though ;)
  11. I wasn't saying that this letter couldn't have happened, I was saying that if Maxis were in 935 since 1917, he wouldn't have been able to see Samantha's mother, and unless by some strange time paradox in which Samantha was born before 1917 and was somehow still only 8 years old in 1945, Maxis would've have to have "seen" Samantha's mother sometime around 1936-7, otherwise Samantha wouldn't have ever been born. This means one of three things: 1. Maxis joined 935 after Samantha was born around 1937. 2. Maxis broke the rules, contacted Samantha's mother around that time and impregnated her. 3. Maxis had a secret relationship with Sophia, and she is Samantha's mother. In my opinion, all three of these things are equally likely. Unfortunately, none of them bring us any closer to figuring out who wrote this letter, seeing as it still could've been Maxis regardless of which fact about him is true
  12. Calling him Lenny makes you seem slightly more sophisticated seeing as you gave him a fitting name based on a character from a piece of classic American literature. Calling him Leroy makes you seem like every other moronic gamer on the internet seeing as you named him after Leroy friggin Jenkins. I say good day. :ugeek:
  13. To everyone saying "we have a date for the map now!" and "the characters would be too young in 1917 so we can't be playing as them" I just wanna point out that just because a letter related to the map was written in 1917 doesn't mean the map actually takes place then. Moon took place in the 60s (or later, I know that's still debated) but there are radios on there from the 40s. Letters and radios do not date the map, they simply indicate the timing of any backstory that may have happened there. As to who wrote the letter, I'm unsure. Samantha was around 8 years old in 1945, and since Group 935 allows no further contact with family or, ahem, others, it's safe to assume Maxis couldn't have joined 935 until sometime after 1937, give or take a couple years. That being said, perhaps this was a smaller, less significant group that Maxis was part of before the formation of 935. Seeing as we don't have any clues as to the ages of Maxis, Richtofen, or anyone else in the group, it's hard to tell if this is someone we know or someone new.
  14. Same here. On round 1, the knife and M1911 are all you need. If I had all the doors open, I could simply save up all my points to buy everything else, without having to worry about "1000 points to move a f****** couch"
  15. Not to mention, if you listen carefully at the beginning of the Buried opening scene, you can hear Samantha's Lullaby playing during the shot of the moon...
  16. By the way guys, I just wanted to point out that the new Avenged Sevenfold album comes out on August 27. Since they've been involved with zombies multiple times before, do you think the release of their album and the release of the map pack could coincide? (and maybe have a song from the album on the map? )
  17. Not quite understanding how the best map in BO2 is a letdown... Personally I'm rooting for late August so I can play without having to deal with school or anything. Also, hoping to see the return of the O4. But again, who isn't? :D
  18. Sometimes I wish I were in the Aether controlling the box. Then, every time someone said the SMR was the worst weapon, I'd correct them by giving them the War Machine.
  19. The only reason I wanted to get rid of it is to restart and find out exactly how to get it. Some people reported that the normal way of achieving this doesn't work. Yeah, I was joking, I fully realize the purpose of figuring out how to lose it. It's so everyone can learn how to get it and to avoid losing it. Therefore, you could sorta call what you're doing a public service :D
  20. If anyone else watched the latest season of Doctor Who then you're probably thinking the same thing I am about this Maxis/Brock theory
  21. I think we will see the O4 return, simply because Buried's easter egg endings seemed to conclude their story. The only purpose those characters served was to help either Maxis or Richtofen, and now that they've done that they're no longer necessary. Or wanted. Another thing that makes me think the O4 will return was because of Vahn's tweets and retweets. He only retweeted three responses, all of which said "bring back the O4". Now, why would he retweet those and not bring the characters back? That would be like saying "OK, so we are paying attention to what you guys want, but instead of giving it to you, we're gonna have all of the characters in the next map be voiced by Nicolas Cage. And I know you want Elena Siegman to return, but the next song will be performed by Nickelback." Exaggeration, I know, but it gets the point across. It would be bad marketing on Treyarch's part to acknowledge what the community is saying and then blatantly not give in to the demand.
  22. I just discovered this perma-perk last night. Went down on round 23 in Die Rise, my friend picked me up and I had only lost my Quick Revive. No idea how I had gotten it, but hey, it has been very useful for those solo games on Buried. You guys can keep trying to figure out how to lose it if you want, personally I'm gonna spend my time figuring out how to keep it
  23. What if the identical tear was intended? Maybe they're hinting that these maps are happening at the same time...? Sounds stupid, but time is broken, the characters are trapped in a loop, and remember that achievement for Buried? "In Buried, rewrite history." Maybe something happens so that this takes place instead of Die Rise...? I dunno, I'm just shooting in the dark. But I do feel like Treyarch is throwing some wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff at us.
  24. Mocking, I feel like we've already had this conversation about what you should expect from Treyarch...
  25. NO. I hated Pop Goes the Weasel. It broke zombies tradition in the worst possible way. Sure, maybe MotD should've been OK since it wasn't really related to the storyline. A cool ending, with a cut scene providing a satisfying ending would've been cool. But instead, it just put text on the screen telling me what happened. I felt like I was playing a PC custom map. Come up with a cool new easter egg reward. Give us a new map, a new weapon, a new area, hell just give us perma-perks again. Just NO. ENDGAMES. [/endrant]
