  1. what's wrong with the current state of the story? Forgeting origins, the Maxis Buried ending has a lot of potential for continuity. I say work from there. Maxis intends to find Samtofen, and she is probably still with our original gang. That sounds promising. Imagine if you had never played zombies before and on the first game of BOIII you ever played you were sam. You would say to your friend "hey what does my character look like, it sounds like a girl!" then he looks and sees a middle aged nazi. :D
  2. Well origins IS in france. The catacombs have always been a fan favorite concept, and honestly I'd love to see it. Plus there's so much evidence to support it, even after it was scrapped. Honestly we're all just biting our nails waiting for it.
  3. I feel like it might work interms of gameplay mechanic, but storywise wakes no sense. The retriever never started out as a normal tommahawk. It was forged by satan in hell. There is no reason why inserting a normal weapon into PaP would turn it into that. Maybe something similar, but not the actual retriever. Also as has been said, potentially OP. I think thet removing the infinite uses is more of a nerf than making you press X to pick up. That just makes it slightly more inconvenient, but still has infinite power.
  4. It has to be a balance between how recent it was, and how severe it was. War is different, because although they have the highest death toll, they are the most... predictable? it is organized by multiple governments, so it is less tragic than a random terrorist attack. It's all a part of the plan. @Undad. I think any historical battle is fine. Any more recent than Vietnam and you're pushing it in terms of "too soon." How about 2 examples? If we had a map take place in sandy hook, although that was a relatively less severe tragedy in terms of death toll, it was very recent. 9/11 on the other hand was less recent but far more severe. So both are a big no. Chernobyl I would say is acceptable in terms of those two points. Long enough ago that people won't be offended. As long as they don't pull a Chernobyl Diaries and fight radiation victims. Zombies that are radiated post-mortem is fine, but fighting someone who died to the disaster is unacceptable. I once made an auschwitz map idea, but I had to employ some major storyline to prevent the player from inevitably fighting zombified gas chamber victims. I worked in a theme for the map: Operation Coming Home, an operation led by Kennedy to dig up mass graves and send victims back to their families. That way the zombies would all be local citizens. They could use something like that to work around the chernobyl history.
  5. Honestly Call of Duty isn't supposed to be un-offensive. It is a game marketed for a mature audience. That might not be the ACTUAL audience, but whatever. There have been some brutal things in call of duty, referencing real or realistic events. From WWII to "No Russian," There has been a lot of controversy. That is less prevalent recently because the games are taking place in the future, so they are either tragedies that happened long ago, or fictional ones. Sure it might be offensive to play on chernobyl, especially since the implication is that we would be killing radiation victims. But they could potentially work around the history as with some other historically grounded maps. Honestly I also think that how recent the tragedy was affects how offended people get. I heard a story recently about a war game based on events in the middle east within the past decade and people were outraged. But so many fewer people are offended by a WWII game. There's always the "too soon" factor which makes entertainment companies tiptoe through the tulips on those subjects. But let's be realistic here. There are so many ways to get offended by CoD. But that is the nature of the beast when you make a game about WAR. The entire point is to make death entertaining, one might argue. My Grandfather was a WWII veteran. He says he doesn't like CoD because "it isn't as fun as doing it for real." Obviously he is joking, but the fact that he can joke about it shows that he has gotten over the potential offensive nature of the game.

  7. I think it's just 1. Inherent use of 115, or 2. Inherent etherial properties. The jet gun, EMP, and Blundergat are no-goes. The acid gat however is fair game. The Sliquifier is unknown because we can't say for sure what the liquid is.
  8. You swim a little in the ghosts campaign, and the black ops one too (a vietnam mission.) That seems easily translatable to zombies. I think you should be able to swim a little by default, but have only like 10 seconds of breath, but can also build / acquire a diving mask.
  9. I used plantronics Rig. It was really great, but now I can't use them just because one cord got messed up so now the microphone doesn't work. It comes with a sweet audio mixer that lets you balance game sounds, in-game chat sounds, skype chat sounds, or music from your ipod. Very nice, high fives.
  10. If that's true it would be a really useful way to pin down exact dates for the BOII maps. It would imply that buried takes place pre-2025. (only by a year or so probably.)

  12. Tropical island, like the map Cove in BOII. Including a crashed plane. Underwater city. Not the legendary atlantis, but a secret 935 base. A boat. It would go from island to island like the bus, except that the boat is massive and takes up 75% of the playable area, and you only reach a stop once every 10 minutes. Basically we haven't had any straight forward water map. CotD is mainly arctic which ruins it, and there is only a little water in SL. Shi no also barely counts.
  13. Guys, guys. The way we can account for the power switch and potentially other technological devices in Buried (such as the paralyzer) is Michael Faraday. His portrait can be seen in the mansion. I think the implication is that the ghost lady is his widowed wife. He was an inventor in the 16-17th century and most likely installed a power grid in the town. He then created the paralyzer and time bomb, but not the RGM2. Why? because the first raygun didn't show up until much later, so the mark 2 would have to have been made after that. He used the time bomb to send the town hundreds of years into the future. due to the missile impacts and tectonic plate shifts, the town ended up under a mining facility, as the facility's tectonic plate shifted over top of where the town used to be. Thus we have an old west town buried in africa with a power grid and futuristic weapons. Still, that is irrelevant to the RGM2. Faraday couldn't have made that.
  14. Ok ok i gotcha. Also I don't think it was created / modified in the aether. I think you're right that porter developed it, and that its canon location is buried. That doesn't necessarily mean that Porter was there himself though, or that he actually made it there. There are plenty of possibilities as to how it got there, as I don't see why porter would ever go there. The town jumped forward in time to post-missile strike, meaning he either developed the gun after the missile impact or potentially hundreds of years before. Neither of those seem very likely, So I'd bet that he actually made it elsewhere and it got sent to buried by some other means.
  15. No, the problem is that we don't know what you're referring to. That isn't your fault, but I also would appreciate it if you would clarify.
  16. Tommahawks could be useful. Let's say it's a one hit kill on any round but only hits one zombie. That would help if for instance you only had a raygun and one zombie blocks your path. If you shoot the backsplash will kill you, but you can just tommahawk with lightning speed and keep running. I would like to see that as shurikens actually, as it would justify you holding 4 or more of them instead of just 2 combat axes (which isn't nearly enough.)
  17. It's possible. Maybe they receive some amount of pain just by controlling them at all? They give up and let the zombie die when it requires too much power and pain to keep them running. Sometimes they endure the pain just to screw us over with a headless zombie.
  18. The pyramids do look similar. Primis usually means something like "first" or "original" in languages like italian or latin. It is possible that the four characters from origins escaped from origins and time traveled to ancient egypt. Maybe when they got there they brought the staves with them, so the egyptians thought they were gods? The pyramids could have been in their honor.
  19. Sorry, I misunderstood. Murder - Something like Fog from ghosts, like a cabin in the woods. Expand on the little one from TranZit and fill it with torture implements. Education - An Elementary school. But no child zombies plz. City - Times square on New Year's day. The ball is shattered on the ground. Ancient - Egyptian tombs. We haven't had a desert map yet. Industrial - Futuristic facility. Less like Der Riese, more like the underground TranZit power station. Plane - Air Force 1.
  20. Haha i remember that! and it called the map "dead high." I don't think treyarch are unoriginal enough to give us 2 consecutive maps whose names are synonyms.

  22. Another thing that I have absolutely no explanation for is the gradually increasing health. It could just be a gameplay mechanic with no real explanation. Also, Their health resets with each map, so it really seems to be just a gameplay mechanic. Of course a lot of hameplay mechanics are explained by the whole "game within a game" deal. We play a game about an omnipotent being playing a game with human survivors. Let me put another thing into perspective for those of you who don't have a lot of knowledge of guns. When you fire a high calibur bullet at a person there are 2 types of damage they refer to: Crush and Tear factor. Every bullet impact creates a thin cylinder through the human, and any flesh or organs in that area are completely ravaged. The interior surface area of that cylinder is also torn up. With any decent calibur bullet (44 magnum round, 50 cal sniper, 7.62, etc) in other words most of the ammo typed in zombies, you can do devastating damage to any live target. Don't even get me started on shotguns. when they say "12 gauge" it basically means that 12 lead balls of the diameter of the barrel equal 1 pound. So the lower the gauge, the more powerful it is. Firing two barrels of a 12-gauge double barrel shotgun at the same time is sending almost a quarter pound of shot through them. And yet on very high rounds, they can take that to the head and survive. Additionally, as I said in another thread, zombies don't get blown over by explosions. In real life, if an explosion sends you flying 20 feet (for example) you are being hit by a shockwave that packs the same amount of force as a solid object sending you that far. So Every grenade, every noob tube, every RPG is basically like hitting all of a zombie's internal organs with a bus. And yet they survive. It's just amazing when you really think about how much damage they can sustain before re-dying. Another question: Since they clearly don't need any organs to survive, as you can shoot them in every organ including their brain and they survive, when they DO die, what is the cause of death? It can't be blood loss since they don't require oxygen or blood and their hearts don't work.
