I second @Bauerklos http://www.callofdutyzombies.com/forum/index.php/topic/178386-quote-from-kino-possible-nacht-comic-clue/?view=findpost&p=1719024 http://www.callofdutyzombies.com/forum/index.php/topic/178360-the-comic-book-makes-no-sense/?view=findpost&p=1718604 For a new member his contributions have been great and he has also donated as well. That doesn't mean he should be nominated just because he also donated but his new topics and posts are worth a read and to be recognised.

Ah but look at the poll, it clearly says that... 8 people want signatures off, 8 want them on XD Which basically means we are currently split 50 / 50 - so a compromise may be required or we make a decision one way or the other and stick to it and have all the information available on how to enable them or how to disable and for this to be ready available.

Caddyman isn't wrong, the less data on a page, generally the quicker the page will load. The more optimised images etc are the better and the smaller the images are the better. On the new site, icons for example will be using font awesome where and when possible. This is essentially text images and text loads far quicker than images. We are also optimising the code that we use for custom pages and so forth and trying to minimise unecessary overhead as much as possible. I want to make speed a priority, being able to load a page in under 2 seconds (i'm actually aiming for 1.5 seconds, preferably below). That's why we are optimising all settings, why we have upgraded apache web services, mysql and so forth. We'll have more upgrades to do, I'm also considering switching from Mysql to mariaDB which is a faster database system or even innoDB. I'm also look at whether sphinx text string search will benefit us (it generally works better for "large" boards. Although this seems like a large amount of posts, it's a drop in the well to large/huge boards which will have over 3/4/5 million posts -so it comes down to whether ot not it brings any benefit(i'm testing it though). Regarding seo, seo is all about content (good content) this is what brings good search engine results. Whether seo is impacted by signatures is a topic for debate and has been discussed elsewhere. I'm off the opinion that signatures have no bearing on seo - unless you are linking your site and trying to get good back links to assist with the ranking of it.

Some very valids points from members and staff and something we need to look at and discuss - opt out may be the way forward, I'll have a look at settings and see if disabling signatures for guests is available. I should probably point out, that you can ignore signatures now if you choose to do so. This can be found under my settings, ignore preferences and ignore all signatures.

At the moment I like going on here on pc because its less laggy and easier to do but when I want to go to another room and be on here am on tablet, or mobile, it is really hard to navigate. Also taptalk just doesnt work for me, I dont like it so thats why I dont use it. Thats all changing bud, it will be so much easier and friendlier.

It's controvesial we know that and I'm an opt out guy myself rather than being opted in. I fully appreciate that opting out is the better option in most scenarios, the idea behind not showing them, is to show how much easier it is to view on a mobile device. So, without further ado, have a look at the example. Not only does it improve browsing experience - it actually looks better without. What we "might" do is run an open test in a few weeks time, let people see it (just the forum) and let people see how it works and looks.
-
We'll let new members who register know and decide - the idea is not to have them but not to stop people using them or viewing them.
-
We are given that option (at least it's the plan) but from a pre defined set

You can't separate the two, that's what he's saying. If you have it on one it will be on the other, but you have the ability to turn it off. Sorry @Tac just to correct you, you'll have the ability to switch them "on" if you so wish. The idea is that they will be switched off globally and everyone will have the same setting. No signatures visible. @The Meh If you want to have a signature and not view it you can, if you don't want a signature but want to view them you can, numerous scenarios exist. Just saying a blanket no because signatures show peoples diversity, isn't looking at the grander picture here You can still view signatures if you choose to so, you just need to change the setting to view signatures and someone who wishes to have a signature (or even if they have one and have the setting to view signatures switched off, can still have their signature viewed). Honestly, this would be a good move and going by the feedback so far - it will be implemented this way.

Yeah lol and spergrans coming to get ya.

It's no different from the Spectrum 64k to the 128k, commodore 64 to the Amiga, NES to the SNES to the N64, PS1 to PS2 to PS3. They will always have an overlap and games will still be produced for the previous console, they are still making money from them and until it doesn't become feasible financially; they will still make them. The next COD will be made for both consoles, the 2nd half of the year is likely to be when studios/publishers say it's no longer financially viable to produce for both.

What's the likelyhood of something of this combination to happen? I think that would be sweet. Unlikely bud, we have our fingers in so many pies at the moment we are stretched. The two styles we have just now are all we will have going forward until the new site is ready. However, on the new site, style, design is so much easier to implement and change - we could in theory have multiple designs. For instance, when the site launches it will be a familiar style, however, when the next Treyarch game is released a simple change can change the entire look and feel (I say simple, but it would require some editing but not massive amounts). It might happen in the future but something that isn't on our radar at the moment.

That's why we have left it as a choice just now, we might make it the default skin if Exo's is a success but it would only be for a short time, as the new site will be out shortly (well, maybe 1 / 2 months time)

The question is this and it is a simple question. Should I get off the bloody internet and do some work?

yes do work, do all the work, because come next week we're going to be up to our eyeballs in exo zombies.
-
Just to remind folk, that the Advanced Warfare skin is available to use, should you choose to use it and build the hype up even more. We might even make it default for everyone

I subscribe to the KISS theory. Me too, I've lost count of the times I've said to our installers or architects we are dealing with and said "Give me a KISS" they are like WHAT! Keep It Simple Stupid The penny then drops lol i dont get what you are saying... I didnt say anything wrong? You didn't bud, sorry if it came across that way, I was just saying I subscribe to the KISS theory as well - that was all. Apologies for any confusion.

I'm going to come out and say this from the off. This will be controversial - so we are going to ask you, the members what you think. However, I will explain what I proposed to the staff yesterday. Signatures will be disabled by default on the new site when launched. Please do not vote in the poll until you have read the topic, do not read the poll question and then vote. We need this decision to be an educated decision, rather voting purely based on the question. Once you have all picked yer jaws up off the floor, I'll explain why I have proposed this. When you are browsing the forum, and reading topics, signatures is the last thing that you want to be scrolling past, you want to get to the next post and read it. That's not too bad on the computer, scrolling is a bit easier. However, on a mobile or a tablet it's generally not as quick and they can take up a lot of real estate on the screen and can be cumbersome. Just so everyone understands exactly why, we will not have a specific mobile skin, we will not be using tapatalk. One style for all devices and then site will respond accordingly to the device that is being used to view the site (that basically means the site will be fully responsive). So I'm proposing that we switch off signatures by default and that if you want to view signatures, you enable them in the account settings section. This makes the site easier to use for everyone and a personal choice on whether to view signatures or not. Let me basically show you a few snapshots, this is given you a little insight into how posts appear on the new forum btw (a first view for everyone on how topics currently look - we are still editing and styling though so not finished). As you can see this is so easy to manage yourself but makes things so much easier and more pleasing on the eye by not having them as default. My personal opinion is we switch them off and if you want to have them on, then you can do so in 3 easy steps. Click my profile Select account settings Select signatures Then all you need to do is toggle between off and on and then save. Please let us know what you think - I have added a poll to get a bit better feedback.

Do you do things around the house? My boy empties and fills the dishwasher, tidies up a bit around the house and helps with our disabled daughter and receives £5 a week. Ask if you can do some chores and be rewarded for doing so and save up the cash you earn. If you did that, by the 9th November you could earn £200 (of you ask your folks for $10, the equivalent of £5 a week) - in 30 weeks, you could earn enough to buy it yourself. It would also show your parents how responsible you could be.
