Black Ops violence 'went too far' says Treyarch

UndeadWolfy did you read my second post at all?!?

The enemies in Killzone 3 have helmets on covering their faces. You're not seeing a human face and the facial expressions and emotions on that face behind the helmets covering their face. That is what Treyarch is saying. With the motion capture technology they used (same as Avatar's as we all should know by now) that can really get almost every little expression and detail the face of the actor could make, it was too realistic.

There's a big difference between a human face and a mask covering it. That is the point I'm trying to get across with your Killzone 3 vs. Black Ops violence arguement, which renders it invalid.

There is still a stigma with violence within and video games. People still think that video games are played by only kids, but in reality they're not as much anymore. Here in Australia we still don't have a R18+ rating for video games, even though a great deal of the 18+ gaming community has been lobbying for it, myself included.

In the long run Treyarch knows that all the 14-15 year olds love Call of Duty and want it to still be available to you.

read 1 of the comments on that youtube vid. It works both ways. The helghast wear masks (what u see in the vid). The ISA dont (the guy doing the stabbing).

I'm just saying there is a big difference between seeing someone you're killing/ torturing with a mask on, and an unmasked person. The facial expressions you see etc.

Yes i know, what im saying is that you can stab members of the ISA aswell who dont wear masks. Of course you are going to see the facial expressions. I think slitting the throat is violent enough. Might be the reason why it was taken out of GTA4 even though it was present in GTA:SA.

Ahh ok. I didn't know you could do that. I'm enlightened now ;) . I don't play on any console so I have no knowledge as to the details of most console exclusive titles.

GTA is a stand up that almost ANY game should be passable. With being able to get BJ's and what not in your car from... well you know who....

Are they serious?! Hell, there even used to be a game where if you shoot them in the arm,leg or even the head with one shot, they're limb would just pop off like if it happens everyday. And Activision published it.

What game was that and how old is it? Now just stop and really read what the news item says. Games these days having only really started using the latest motion capture technology. It wasn't about the gore and gimping. What Treyarch is saying is that they're able to capture so much detail in the faces that it was just a tad too realistic.

Please read the article on hand and think about it before we have another redundant post in a thread.

I gotta ask something. How come it's "too realistic" to chop up a dude's face in a videogame? If you saw that shit in a movie theater or on a DVD, you'd see a parent calming down a freaked-out youngster by saying "don't worry, son, it's okay, it's not real, they're just actors."

And that's the same thing here. Some dude made a face like he was being tortured. I guarantee you Treyarch didn't mocap the face of an actual person getting his balls twisted off. How does such a weak-belly work for a company that makes shooter games anyway? Doesn't he know what bullets do to bodies?

Exactly.... well put my friend, well put.

I was hoping at the end he was gonna say "but we put it all in anyway because were treyarch and we do what we want"

they could at least put it in the game and have the abiity to switch it on and off

Thats a good point. There is the ability in games like Fat Princess for the PS3 where when you kill them, instead of blood coming out, they explode into confetti. Might sound stupid but its a nice graphical feature aswell. Why not simply have the ability to turn it on or off? Even with a password if you wanna be extra secure. Of course children play it as well as mature people and having the option would suit the need perfectly.

make a rating for 21 year olds +

then it will be allowed :D

also add a warning saying dont play this.

so if you are distressed then people cant do anything to the game industry as they already told you not to play, like what they do with south park

[brains]

Then if they make COD:BO AO-rated, the game will only be sold at porn shops, because major retailers have decided years ago not to carry AO-rated titles. In otherwords, AO-ratings are bad for business. :P

What Treyarch is saying is that they're able to capture so much detail in the faces that it was just a tad too realistic.

Maybe they're referring to a mission where you can torture a VC. One of the parts of that segment involves putting a glass shard in his mouth and then smacking his jaw several times.

how is that brutal, no bloof (well not much) no gore, no flying limbs or UNSETTLING screaming.

I say like before, add a warning saying dont play this.

so if those FUCKING 5 year olds who play cod even though its an 18, or even if an 20 year old is distressed then people cant do anything to the game industry as they already told you not to play, like what they do with south park

I agree that it was a little too graphic, But it had a player discretion pop up at the beginning of the game. To be honest, I think that the throat cutting was the worst, As you were the one who had to do it and you could see everything taking place. This is why I do not condone children playing M rated games. But, What are you going to do? There should be more strict measures that ensure that kids do not play such games.

I like the idea of more realistic looking characters though. I think that in the future, There will be more involvement in the process of just how far games will go. I think that virtual reality will become involved, Where you can personally interact with the character of choice, Etc... That would be pretty neat.

LOL wtf?

There's neck snaping and throat slitting the old Syphon Filter games why not black ops?

Neck snaping isn't gruesome, it's just a crack, they fall down, you keep movin', I don't see why they wouldn't put it in there.

The throat slitting couldn't be that bad. They've had a guy slit his throat and blood all other the place in CSI so in BO it shouldn't be a problem.

And referring to the Numbers mission, so it's ok to have your character put broken glass in a man's mouth and punch him several times, but neck snapping is over the top?

ahhh this thread again. Well I have something to add. Have you guys played Mortal Kombat? Or at least seen the fatalities and x-ray moves? They are so gruesome. Would give my 8 year old cousin nightmares. Look at Kung Laos buzzsaw. My gonads hurt a little when I saw that. How I see it, is that Treyarch either couldnt be bothered or didnt have enough time to put the facial animations in and twisted it to make it seem like it was too good that they couldnt put it in which raised hype and worked in Activi$ion and Treyarch's favour. Sort of like a publicity stunt.

That's funny, It's too "violent"?? BS!! Anyone recall a certain part of MW2 that involved doing a shooting massacre of innocent people at an Airport?? I don't see how that is less disturbing then seeing some facial expression when you get killed. If Infinity Ward can pull that violent shit off then Treyarch shouldn't have to worry about "too realistic" facial expressions.

I really do agree with this!

After i beat the Campaign i went out and started killing Random people depicting what i saw in game,

It made me kill my Mom,Dad,Brother and even my Dog!

Im typing this out as the Police are on there way.

But before they can get here i will Slit my throat just as i saw it in game!

It is all Treyarch's fault they made the game to good TO GOOD I SAY!

Why do people fail so much?

I mean its just like how they put down Medal of Honor because it was set in a Modern day setting/war!
