As usual, i always tend to think outside the box, which is why i dont believe Ascension will be a light house at all like most people seem to believe, so here is my own theory. Enjoy

ASCENSION GROUP EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

1. The Ascension group is a coalition of former scientists from the German wunderwaffe program and group 935. These scientists have been co-opted and organized by soviet general Dragovich for the purpose of pushing forward soviet weapons developement.

2. The lead is one Frederic Stiener and his focus was on the nova 6 program. He and the ****** of the Wunderwaffe scientists disappeared on the (think it either 19th or 29th) October 1945 near the Artic circle. Around the Same Time, the soviet Operation designated "Olympus" comprised of the 3rd Shock Army Special Operations unit led by General Dragovich

3. British Intelligence records state MI-6 had a commando unit in the General Vicinity but refused to disclose the details of their presence there.

This is the key terminal file that directly links Nazi Zombies with Campaign, not only that but could prove Maxis is alive!!! ok, let me break it down

In NDU black ops maps loading screen we get this image below

on the left we have a loan figure. This is either Maxis, Dragovich, or Stiener (bare with me) on the right we have Soviet hammer and sickle on loads of boxes. now read above

Doctor Ludvig Maxis was lead scientist of Der Riese and member of Group 935 along with Doctor Richtofen

The images could also show that they are the group 935 scientists being brainwashed

Also the timeline seems to be going in reverse? so is it possible that we might go back in time aswell as forward?

anyways back to the point, as the campaign is cleary linked to Nazi Zombies, I believe that Ascension may not be Ascension Island like i first guessed nearlly half a month ago, but now believe it could be Bakonur Cosmodrome or Rebirth Island (a Soviet map with Russian Zombies)

Also i havent checked myself, but ive been told by reliable people that the Thundergun has Russian writing on it, which was designed by Maxis, so if there is russian writing on it, it would further prove my theory

The Blank portrait is definitely linked to it.

As it has the teams pictures next to it, i believe the blank portrait is 1 of 2 people (as it has to be someone they the Team (or 1 of them) knew at some point

Maxis is the obvious answer, as he was Richtofens Boss and was the one who did the tests on Dempsey, Nikolai and Takeo (in which Richtofen carries on observation) Maxis is the main character and the only one other than Richtofen who could work with the russians (if indeed he teleported through time instead of being sent to the Aether with Sam

my other theory on the blank character is actually Peter

Peter as we know was an agent sent under cover to Der Riese. he was then Sent to continue research at Verruckt, he then fled during the outbreak at Verruckt and went to SNN and died (possibly by Richtofens hand) as in the iphone version of SNN, you find peters Grave
