Still NAT type problems? Heres how (Effortless way)

Ok, so my friend was getting extremely pissed off that he couldnt play with me or others because he had strict NAT in Black Ops, but in MW2 had Open

I was looking around because i wanted to be able to play zombies with him. This is what i found:

Download that link. You WILL have to purchase an account, (if you REALLY have to, then you can just get a keygen for someones username and password). It costs $30, but as i said, you can get it for free if you dont want to pay.

Once you have downloaded and installed, you will be asked to put in an account name and password. DO NOT put it in, please evaluate this before you purchase just in case your router is not supported.

Now, choose your router brand and model, and then from there, you can put in you account details (or keygen details) and then it should come up with a list of games. Choose Black Ops from that list and it will automatically update your router and open the required ports.

After it has been updated, restart your router (not factory reset, just turn it off then on again) as well as your PC, PS3, or 360. Then turn back on router, and then system, and it should now be open NAT type (or at least moderate).

Note: it may take 12 hours or so for it to open the ports succesfully.

You can also press the reset button on the back of your modem,it only takes about a minute and it works for me everytime :)

I didnt know that. I dont have NAT problems though, maybe i will tell my friend if it goes back to Strict

You could also easily forward ports in just a couple minutes manually without the use of the program. First you have to go to portforward.com and determine which router you have and what game you want to play. It will then tell you which ports you need to forward for that specific game. In order to forward the ports, you have to access your router's homepage which is the IP address for the router. You can figure out the IP by either using a command prompt and typing in ipconfig (on windows) or my searching for the type of router you have and what it's IP address is. Once you've determined the IP address, you just have to type it into your browser's URL bar and it will take you to the setup page for your router. Sometimes it will require a username and password and most of the time it will just be admin for both username and the password unless you manually changed it before. Once your there, you will have to look for either a Port Forward page or perhaps a Games/Applications page and it will give you the option to manually forward ports. Pretty straightforward from there.

It might seem like it's a lot more work than simply letting a program do it for you, but it takes a lot less time and you can get to gaming almost instantly after you've done it.

I would strongly advise against using any program to configure your router/ modem settings for obvious reasons. If you need to forward ports I would suggest doing it manualy. There is plenty of info on the webz for doing this and its all free and does not require a third party program.

found this on the xbox.com forums. u can manually open up the additional ports that black ops uses.

here they are

Inbound / Forwarded Ports:

Generic XBox Live Ports:

UDP: 88, 1863, 3074

TCP: 1863, 3074

Additional Call of Duty Black-Ops Ports:

UDP: 22782, 33233

Outbound Ports

* You shouldn't need to do anything about this unless you manually restrict outbound traffic

I tried doing it the manual way myself just so i could play with people on strict NAT (so id have open). I went to my routers website and for opening ports it said: externet port and internet port. what do i put in here?

Easiest way to solve all these problems without adding ports or downloading and installing software is simply to put your PS3 into the DMZ.

What this does is completely unrestrict and data coming to your PS3 so if you are having a problem you know that its definitley not to do with any open or closed ports.

Putting the PS3 into the DMZ won't just help Black Ops, but every single game, application or service that uses the internet on the PS3, even speed up and keep a more secure PSN connection, download updates faster and make it so that no mics are ever blocked and your NAT is mostly on "open".

I've done this a few times, with a few routers we have had, and it doesn't always help, it always ended straight back into strict/moderate, right now it's moderate

Have a look in the router settings and disable the "IP Flooding" option or similar if there is one.
