The M14 and FN FAL are both Semi-Automatic rifles, which are available to civilians with a basic FOID card. Automatic weapons (including 3 round burst) are prohibited to 99% of civilians. Generally speaking, only Police and Military are allowed to apply for a class 3 license and to own Fully Automatic assault rifles.
