Analyzing the Mural on Ascension

I agree with you on the overall theme.

I know we can't really tell what that guy is holding in his hand, but deep inside me my zombies side is screaming FOCUSING STONE!!! But I'm not really sure if they even thought of that at the point of ascension

And that squiggle of lines, I don't know if that's supposed to be wear from the rock or just something else. I'm going to look up some soviet propaganda posters, see if it matches anything.

Oh I have some really crazy theories on the Focusing Stone. One of my theories is that the Communist were building their own version of the Focusing Stone ;)

I like where you are going with this. These CCCP Propaganda images are awesome! This is more on target than my Chinese, The Great Leap Forward, propaganda pics I posted earlier.

Check out what he's holding ;)

This poster was issued in 1961 to commemorate the flight of Yuri Gagarin. The text in the upper left-hand corner states: "For Soviet Science--Glory!" The lower right-hand corner says "Glory to the Soviet People--and the First Cosmonaut!" Behind the cosmonaut is the " Soviet space road"--the first achievement was in 1959 where Lunik 2 impacted the Moon; the second achievement was Gagarin's mission in 1961. The Rocket behind Gagarin says "Vostok" and "12 April 1961." Of special note is that Yuri is holding the metal ball delivered to the lunar surface by Lunik 2 in 1959. Already the propaganda disseminated by the Russian authorities was connecting the Soviet manned space achievement with the "lunar idea."

Aha! "Houston, we have identified the ball!"

Aha! "Houston, we have identified the ball!"

I know it's colored red, but look at the design on the orb Yuri Gagarin is holding. Is that the same orb that we use on to open the pyramid device with? I THINK SO

Oh boy, I really like where this little metal ball is taking us.

Oh boy, I really like where this little metal ball is taking us.

I like where this mural took us

We started with the CCCP mural, and ended up finding historical propaganda poster with this little metal ball, that took us deep into the Moon EE. *high five*

This just wrapped up a whole bunch of loose ends for me in my own storyline theory research. I have this metal ball all figured out. I'm in the process of forging my most epic storyline theory now ;)

Nice. Good luck with it, not that you'd need it of coarse. I wonder if that ball on the moon really was supposed to be the one Yuri's capsule launched to it, We need to publicize this, nobody really checks the Ascension forum since we all gave up on the EE lol.

I found out more info about that red metal ball in the Yuri Gagarin propaganda poster. I'm not so sure it's an exact match to the Moon EE sphere anymore. Maybe it is, but it's unconfirmed as of now. Regardless, it still has some pretty cool CCCP space history to it.

LUNA 2 FIRST SPACECRAFT TO REACH THE MOON – SEPT. 14, 1959

The [Luna 2] spacecraft also carried Soviet pennants. Two of them, located in the spacecraft, were sphere-shaped, with the surface covered by identical pentagonal elements. In the center of this sphere was an explosive to scatter these elements around on impact. Each pentagonal element was made of stainless steel and had the USSR Coat of Arms and the Cyrillic letters СССР (Russian; it translates into English as USSR) relief engraved on one side, and the words СССР СЕНТЯБРЬ 1959 (English: USSR SEPTEMBER 1959) relief engraved on the other side. The third pennant was located in the last stage of the Luna 2 rocket, which impacted the moon 30 minutes after the spacecraft did. It was a capsule filled with liquid, with aluminium strips placed into it. On each of these strips the USSR Coat of Arms, the words 1959 СЕНТЯБРЬ (English: 1959 SEPTEMBER) and the words СОЮЗ СОВЕТСКИХ СОЦИАЛИСТИЧЕСКИХ РЕСПУБЛИК (English: UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS) were engraved.

On September 15, 1959, the premier of the USSR, Nikita Khrushchev, presented to the American president Dwight D. Eisenhower a copy of the spherical pennant as a gift.

LMAO at Khrushchev presenting a replica one of these as a gift to the US President. What a back-handed gift this was. In one way it says, "just remember we Russians sent a space-craft to the Moon first". And the real sphere had an explosive device inside of it. So I'm sure the americans were a bit uneasy about accepting this gift wondering if it's really a bomb, lol. Seriously, the Russians can be complete badasses when they want to be.

Not sure if this has any relation or not. But this globe/sphere is interesting:

Oh yes, I love space race history. I know it's not really related but if you want to know some cool stuff look up the Me 262 and the Horten Ho, those were the two REAL super aircrafts of the Germans air force, good thing for us they never got much service. They kickstarted the aerospace war between Russia and the USA.

But about the Moon, I read (I've got this GIANT encyclopedia on Aviation History) that after we had completed out landing, the Russians stopped working towards that, and mastered rover technology, and one supposedly covered like 100,000km of the Moon's surface, perhaps this is how they found out about Griffin Station in Zombies? It's still funky the story of how the completed what they did at ascension but I guess it's supposed to be since that technology isn't even possibly to create.

Why would this be in Ascension if the Monument wasn't resurrected until 1964, at least a year after Ascension?

Why would this be in Ascension if the Monument wasn't resurrected until 1964, at least a year after Ascension?

Many have assumed Five and Ascension are happening at the exact same time because we can hear the crew from Five talking through the red phones on Ascension. The same red phones show up on both maps.

For those looking to pinpoint an exact date on when this map is happening, have likely assumed sometime in late Oct - early Nov 1963 because of the last entry on this chalkboard in the Pentagon, as well as JFK's death (Nov 22, 1963).

So we know Ascension must be happening in late Oct - early Nov 1963, right? Well not so fast....

The Monument to the Conquerors of Space was not open to the public until Oct. 1964.

Why would their be a painted mural of this Monument's embossed relief in the Ascension map if the Russian Monument wasn't constructed until 1964?

I can only conclude that Treyarch simply does not care about having specific dates to their maps.

This is a great thread Mix. From the Mural to that ball & everything inbetween, you where even posting the Great Leap Forward propaganda! Those links are down to btw, I wish I could view them :(

http://jproc.ca/crypto/hotline.html

"As a result of the Cuban missile crisis the long, talked-about "hot line" between Washington and Moscow was to become a reality. On 20th June, 1963, at Geneva, Switzerland , the United States and the Soviet Union signed a Memorandum of Understanding that set up a duplex cable circuit routed from Washington-London-Copenhagen-Stockholm-Helsinki to Moscow for primary political communications and a duplex radio circuit routed from Washington to Tangier to Moscow for service communications and as a back-up.

The hotline became operative August 30, 1963. Because the link was not in constant use it had to be tested each day. This called for creative dialogue between two archenemies. Poems and stories of all sorts were exchanged. Sometimes baseball game scores from the American side or excerpts from Ivan Turgenev's "Notes of a Hunter" on the Soviet side were transmitted. However, some of the exchanges caused puzzlement on the Soviet end. One day, Andrei Gromyko asked Dean Rusk 'What does it mean when your people say, "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog?"

NO TELEPHONES ON THE HOT LINE

The white paper "Origins, Use and Development of Hotlines" addresses the myth of telephones on the Hot Line.  "One of the lasting myths surrounding the Hot Line is that it consists of a telephone link. This was considered by both superpowers but there were strong arguments against using a telephone connection. All parties concerned preferred a teletype link. The Americans pointed out that a teletype system on a reserved line could have dual capabilities and be used for voice communications should that prove desirable.

Nevertheless, the image of the hot line as a telephone link has prevailed. This misunderstanding is not confined to the public. When it was suggested in the U.S. State Department in 1983 that speech facilities should be added to the hot line, many officials believed it already had a telephone as seen in the movies!

- sorry to be so far off topic.

The same goes with the Operation Cedar Falls board (in FIVE), that did not occur until 1967. JFK wasn't around then. I know they are still reused textures (that really bugs me) but I still think it hints at something for it to be there.

Let's just say I went on a whole lot of magical journeys in my round-about way of getting to the real answer.

I swear, somewhere there are Russian fans who are sitting back laughing at us ignorant Americans for taking this long to figure it out.

In retrospect, some of these rabbit holes I went down are downright embarrassing.

I was way off in my Great Leap Forward propaganda. My mind was deep in the Kino Wii audio file stuff at the time I started exploring that direction. Communist Propaganda tends to look a lot the same no matter what country it comes from.
