MP40 vs. Thompson

Both of these guns are super popular in W@W and are considered tO be the best on the maps. Let's see which one is the better!

MP40:

Caliber: 9mm

Clip size: 32 (Unupgraded)

Reserve: 192(Unupgraded)

Cost: 1000

Pros-Good power and lasts a long time, good ammo capacity. Large clip size.

Cons- slow rate of fire.

Thompson:

Caliber: 45 acp

Clip size: 20(Unupgraded)

Reserve: 200 (Unupgraded)

Cost: 1200

Pros- Good power, high rate of fire and good ammo capacity.

Cons: Clip size could be bigger, and doesn't have as much power as thMP40.

Availability:

The Thompson is available from the wall in all maps, and The mp40 isn't in Nacht.

The rundown:

So what are my results? It's by a hair, but I pick the MP40. Just because of its sheer power and easiness to get headshots with.

I must respectfully disagree. The Thommy is my favorite gun in Zombies. I feel that its rate of fire makes up for its lesser damage. It's so VERSATILE too. It can be used as a killing weapon as well as a point whoring gun, especially in the early rounds. Plus, I like the iron sights better. :3

Just my opinion though.

Ah, the MP40. Me and that gun go way back. First gun I'd ever bought, first I pack-a-punched. I can still remember parroting Richtoffen's line: "vat could be better zan ze MP40?

Plus add Speed Cola+Double Tap, that thing is a MONSTER!

Shouldn't you have made the thread a poll? =P

Anyway, personally I'd choose the Thompson because, despite the MP40's high ammo capacity, the Thompson does everything else better. Higher rate of fire, faster reloads and generally higher damage make up for it and overall, surpass the MP40. Let's not forget how much the MP40 recoils, to which the problem is only augmented with it's slow rate of fire. And on top of all that, the Thompson's easier to get, especially in Der Riese.

If you allow me to be honest, the thompson sounds a bit like a paintball gun. I have to choose the MP40 ;) But I would also choose the MP40 if the sound didn't matter.

Thompson as it does 105,600 Maximum Total Damage while the MP40 only does 89,600 Maximum Total Damage, while the Gibs-O-Matic does 290,000 Maximum Total Damage while The Afterburner does only 256,000 Maximum Total Damage.

The Thompson also has 232 ammunition while the MP40 only has 224. Upgraded, those figures become 290 and 256.

So not only does the Thompson beat the MP40 in damage, but it also beats it in points.

Depends on the map

nacht and der reise ill get thompson

shino and verruckt ill get mp40..on der reise its difficult to get mp40 ammo mid-round

On kino and cotd i usually get mp40 though depending on which route i take to power...if not AK74U ;)

So not only does the Thompson beat the MP40 in damage, but it also beats it in points.

The Thompson only has 220 maximum ammunition, meaning that the MP40 does have more ammunition than the Thompson (though not by much). This changes when PaP'd however.

You are correct about the Thompson doing more max damage though. It also reloads and shoots faster, which makes the Thompson a better killing weapon than the MP40, even when both are PaP'd.

However, the MP40's slightly higher maximum ammunition makes it a better point-making weapon (only by slightly) if you're just trying to make money to use traps on a high round (meaning the MP40 is superior for high-round strategies, at least in that regard and without weapon location factored in).

Still though, the point-making advantage is only slight and out of the 3 maps which have both weapons, the Thompson is in a more convenient location on two of them (Der Reise and Shi No Numa) and in general fits into more strategies on those maps, which means on those two maps the Thompson is both the better kill-weapon choice and the better point-weapon choice, whereas on Verruckt the Thompson is only the better kill-weapon choice. Still though, this mean the Thompson is superior to the MP40 is more ways than the MP40 is superior to it, and it's advantages are greater, making the Thompson the better weapon in general. When both of he weapons are PaP'd, the Thompson is superior in every regard.

I'm gonna have to say Thompson.
