On another thread ccm404e (credit to him) decided to search tacitus in the URL bar with .com/.co.uk/.org on the end.

tacitus.com is a closed business. The site existed back in the late 90s so that's nothing.

tacitus.net links you to a website about buying domain names.

tacitus.co.uk is about domain names as well

and tacitus.org... well... German Porn Site. And I don't really wanna know what nooks and crannys you have to highlight to find the 3arc logo.

I searched Tacitus.com and got something different...

http://www.tacitus.com/

If your getting something else when clicking on the link then this is what it says, i cant copy/paste and photobuckets playing up, so here:

Tacitus rising, A visionary project begins again in 2012.

Once there was a company named tacitus. It lives no more. But rising from its ashes is something new: a league of experts in different fields, from different industries, institutions, companies and universities.

Experts in global financial markets, game design and development, biological research, genomics, astrophysics, risk analytics, interaction design, immersive data visualization and skateboarding.

In 2012-2013 we're building a global collaberative project focused on prototyping ground breaking

tools for deriving insight from the most complex data-sets on earth.

Stay tuned.

That what is says on the webpage, and to the left of it is a image. When i get photobucket to work i will post it.

**Photobucket now works**

Thanks for reading :D

I got from the link same as you and by typing it to the address bar same as ccm404e I went to that website even before he posted it.

To note you the site you linked has the same logo as the website ccm404e was talking about, so its the same company and everything. And they have patent for:

SIMULATING USER IMMERSION IN DATA REPRESENTATIONS - The disclosure provides various systems, methods, and software supporting user immersion in data representations. Software for virtual immersion in large datasets identifies a dataset at least partially based on abstract information, with the dataset comprising a plurality of data elements including at least a first data element of a first type and a second data element of a second type. The software then generates a three-dimensional virtual environment based on the identified dataset. This virtual environment may include a first graphical element based on the first data element and a second graphical element based on the second data element. Each graphical element is associated with one or more simulated expression elements based, at least in part, on the state of the dataset. The software then presents at least a portion of the virtual environment to a user such that the user may interact with the dataset within the virtual environment.

I'm quite sure it has nothing to do with quadrotor and BO2 but I guess searching it more wont do the harm.

But its just some random software company.

I've sent an email to the link on the site, asking him if he knows of any COD viral marketing, or prototype quadrotors.

Upon further research, this man DOES exist, and has run a few companies in the past. he has 374 linkedin connections, so I do not think that he is some kind fake person created for the viral. Hopefully I get a response.

Beat me to it. Was just about to send him an email asking him what his project was about or if he knows about viral marketing, but you've already got it covered. :p

The email address is no longer on the page, owner must've removed it.

Another sentence has been added onto the text!

''Discovery comes from play''

Which is inbetween the second paragraph and the Stay tuned line!

Posted

As you can see like i said up there ^, if you go on the website now the email address is gone and there is an extra line of text.

All i done was put http://www.tacitus.com in the URL bar

The logo does resemble the Treyarch one to some extent?

Posted

The image DOES look familiar to the Treyarch logo. Hmmm. Still the same image for me. I'm confused. I have a feeling Tacitus is the next website, like gknova6.com

Posted

Every time i check this site there's some new words on it, something definitely weird going on.

It could be the new Gknova6. I do believe this has something to do with cod, randomly coming back to life as soon as the black ops 2 reveal is announced. The fact that it begins in 2012-2013 which will be black ops 2's 'Prime' years.

I've just thought of something pretty wild...

Im reading the taticus website and the word 'ashes' stood out, i don't know if anybody watched it on TV but who remembers the tv series on BBC Ashes to ashes and life on mars? And that storyline was were a man was put in a coma in present times and sent back to 1970, were he tried to fight back to his present day life. Pretty wild but treyarch could be doing something similar with the future theme?

Some kid lives in future times, gets nocked out and sent back to mason/hudson times? who knows.

I'm starting to think tacitus.com might be unrelated.

Let's think about it like this, tacitus.com looked like this until today

Keep the name Howard Coale in your head, so Tacitus seemed to be some sort of failed company, so what updates today? Tacitus.com, but what's that? Howard Coale's (personal) website also updated to be the exact same design as the newly updated tacitus.com

http://www.coale.com/

But, notice in the top bar Howard has managed to spell "the" wrong and instead say "Tghe Tacitus Project"

This seems to me like an attempt to revive a company due to the large amount of traffic tacitus.com has had recently because of FPSRussia linking the word to the viral campaign.

The domain is still owned by Howard Coale and if it was related to Activision would have been registered by "Mark Monitor"

Discovery comes from play....

Someone needs to do a quick check of the WaW and Black Ops maps, both Zombies and multiplayer.

Something is going on.

Looking for anagrams of 'Howard Coale' right now.

An anagram of Tacitus is Tac Suit. When I think 'tac suit', I think poisonous gas, and when I think poisonous gas, I think Nova 6.

Howard Coale is a real person though, this is his company that has been around for a very long time, this is him: http://www.linkedin.com/in/coale he's just a business man, I don't think he's related.

Hmm, but why would someone completely 'revive' a failed business from however many years ago, and attempt to build some sort of global scientific data thing? ( ) just because his desolate website got a few visits?

FPSrussia has been tweeting about tacitus meaning it is of some relevance, and apart from something in roman times/jesus times this is the only modern information on tacitus.

I don't think its completely irrelevent. There logo is orange, tacitus was written orange on his shirt, and the logo also somewhat resembles treyarch's. I think there's too much of a link for it to be a coincidence

Posted

Tac suit? Tac being short for tactical? Tactical mask? As for Howard Coale, thats the only thing in the way of me completely believing that this is cod related. Maybe treyarch approached the man? Highly unlikely but anythings possible.

Tac suit.. Nova 6 crawlers? If this is to do with CoD, maybe its treyarch's way of telling us about zombies?

A "few" views doesn't cut it, a video with 1 million+ views and him tweeting about it on an account with 202,000 followers would gain a lot of traffic. The domain is still owned by him and if Activision had any control over this site it would be registered to MarkMonitor which is the brand protection company Activision uses and the company that has registered every single Activision domain.

You guys are just over thinking this stuff.

I don't see any relevance, IF the website was really 3arc there wouldn't be pointless mumbo jumbo with no information what so ever.

Remember GKNOVA6 it was clearly full of codes and stuff and by the visuals a lot more professional.

3ARC would not use so plain and boring site to promote the game.

http://www.tacitus.com is nothing about the game. We must not start wasting time on this when the real deal of tacitus is somewhere there for us to find.

I've seen it, brother.

I get that this guy may just be a failed innovator that tried to do something magnificent and didn't succeed, whose dreams were revitalized by this miracle viral. This may have saved his career. Shoot, I'm sure Mr. Coale himself plays his fair share of video games. But here is something I found:

Tacitus is licensed under Howard Coale, while Coale himself is currently employed to Sapient according to his LinkedIn page. Guess what company is Activision's digital marketing agency?

Sapient.

Moreover, Sapient actually helped Activision advertise and launch Modern Warfare 3.

I am beginning to see a connection here.

Maybe so, but it dosen't add up for me.

FPSrussia puts a video out wearing a tacitus t-shirt

Then a dead business comes back to life with the same name within the video being up for not even 48hrs. (I mean tacitus is a completely random word, 2 completely different new things with the same random name coming up within a day dosen't seem right to me)

There logo resembles treyarch's.

Logo is orange, same as his shirt.

The tacsuit anagram.

Yes we could be going to far, but treyarch has kind of took there marketing strategy to the next level this year. All will be revealed shortly i suppose. :)

Now THAT'S more like it!!!

That's an interesting connection, but check this out.

This is a screenshot of tacitus.com from January 25th 2007.

Notice the exact same logo as in the new layout.

They carry the exact same goal as the updated website does.

You can check the 2007 version of the website here: http://web.archive.org/web/200705260459 ... index.html

They wouldn't re-use the same assets for an advertising campaign for Call of Duty.

I also just noticed this from the snapshot from January 25th 2007

Seem familiar?

Hmmm :?

What actually is this business supposed to be? The Discovery comes from play thing is obviously a popular quote of there's. There 2007 logo reminded me more of a pretzel then the treyarch one

They're basically trying to implement video games mechanics into more 'useful' to create extremely detailed, three dimensional visual worlds of the universe. Like the video chat thing in Star Wars.

You bring up extremely good points, Liam. I'm going to email Howard just to inquire about what his project is about, and why he decides to just activate it again at such a random time. Not even going to mention CoD.

I must ponder this further. The project was long dead. Then it just appears again, brimming with life and prosperity. I do think that, somehow, someway, this Tacitus thing is related to the new game.
