Staff Sergeant Witt

MACV-SOG

X-Ray Team

Long Son, North Vietnam

Woods-"We've got approval to start covert operations into Laos and the rest of Northern Vietnam. We have orders to send three teams out to search for proof of Russian involvement in this damn hell hole. I want Whisky Team and X-Ray team leaders up front."

Witt and Bowman move up to Woods, the rest of the men disperse.

Bowman-"Watcha need boss"

Woods-"I want your team to head up with near the DMZ, Witt, I want your team to go way up North to some sorry ass place called Long Son. Its perched at the tip of some river and our sources say that there may be some Russian supply boats ferrying god knows what to Charlie. Check it out."

Witt-"You got it boss."

The two leave and go to their teams. Witt arrives in the team tent to see three men. One named Sim, a slim boy around the age of 19, a rifleman. A broad man named Devin, in his 20s, he carried the Stoner LMG. Then there was Jimmy, a tough man who was a rifleman in addition to the demolitions expert.

Witt-"Drop your #%#$s, grab your socks, we're moving out,"

Sim-"Where?"

Witt-"Some docks up north in Long Son, we gotta find evidence of Russian involvement."

They all geared up, 10 mags, 2 canteens, ponchos, C-rations, boonies. They got a ride up until Hue City, but up to that point it was all walking. They humped up to the location, set up a perimeter, and waited.

Devin-"I dont see shit Witt, why the hell does Woods think that theres ruskies up here?"

Witt didn't answer. He waited, watched. The docks were empty except for a few NVA soldiers smoking or sleeping. Things were quiet for hours, but Witt waited. A medium sized boat came in the docks, armed men on the ship. Witt told the team to load and lock, he assigned them targets and they watched. The men on the boat started yelling at the sleeping NVA soldiers, then they began unloading what appeared to be canisters of oil or gas. The soldiers started rolling the canisters out of sight when a large man stepped off the boat. The men saluted. Witt declared him the leader, he aimed at his head and gave the order to his team to fire after his shot. The boat started to pull out, Witt's finger wrapped around the trigger when all of a sudden, the eyes. The russian commander's eyes started right at Witt. Witt aimed and fired but only meet contact with the departing boat. The team fired and several NVA and Russian soldiers dropped. The survivors ducked and looked around like nervous deer. The russian commander calmly walked off onto a trail where the canisters were rolled off too. The enemy returned fire. Dirt and leaves flew up all around Witt's team, the pulled back and reformed for an assault on the docks. They tossed grenades, then with Devin in the lead, the moved forward firing from the hip. The searched the docks and found russian uniforms and weapons on the dead men. They photographed them and moved on in order to intercept the canisters.

"Form up on me, we have to ambush them along the trail if we're going to get those canisters, Jimmy you-"

Witt was interrupted by a sharp pop and a continuous whisping sound. Then men aimed their rifles and searched the tree line. Nothing, just a green mist seeping through the leaves and branches. The men fumbled with their gas masks, but it was too late. Their eyes bled, skin decayed. The poor soldiers grasped at their throats for air, but only to drop like sacks of flower.

After that day Kravchenko started experimenting with different types of gases as tests to see what could surpass Nova 6.

Interrogator: You were in the Mekong, headed north to Kravchenko's compound. You were headed for Laos.

Mason: Laos... Kravchenko... The fucking psycho was spraying nerve gas all over Vietnam. I had to kill him. Do you understand? I have to kill them all!

I laughed at Bowman's: "Whatcha need boss". Hehehe, he would never say something like that. Woods would probably slap him.
