Grenades on bridge?

Does anyone know why when you throw grenades through the crack in the bridge they still explode, even though they fall into a river of lava, while everywhere else on the map they will not explode when they touch lava?

It's probably just a flaw with the bridge. It doesn't really change the gameplay much so it's not a issue for Treyarch.

You can't get into that lava, so they probably never gave it any value other than visibility.

It is just visual background. I actually tried that myself...

The lava isn't actually solid. So the grenade falls through to under the map, or at least under the lava. They didn't add the normal lava qualities since you shouldn't be able to experience them anyway.
