Anyways, I know the orange flame is hot topic, but what is the gray flame?

Any greyscale images within the forum (not medals) display no unread posts within a topic. So for instance, the topic is considered unread if you didn't check every page of a thread. But if you do, then it is considered read and the grey flame will show that. It's a common forum mechanic that lets you know if you already read through that topic/read all the posts.
