The Philadelphia Experiment was a naval military experiment alleged to have been carried out at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA sometime around October 28, 1943. The U.S. Navy destroyer escort USS Eldridge was claimed to be rendered invisible (or "cloaked") to enemy devices.

The story is thought to be a hoax. The U.S. Navy maintains that no such experiment was ever conducted, and details of the story contradict well-established facts about the Eldridge itself, as well as commonly accepted physics.

The experiment was allegedly based on an aspect of the unified field theory, a term coined by Albert Einstein. The Unified Field Theory aims to describe mathematically and physically the interrelated nature of the forces that comprise electromagnetic radiation and gravity, in other words uniting the fields of electromagnetism and gravity into one field. Consequently, if light were bent, then space-time would be bent, effectively creating an invisible time machine.

According to the accounts, unspecified 'researchers' thought that some version of this Unified Field Theory would enable a person to use large electrical generators to bend light around an object so that the object became completely invisible. The Navy would have regarded this as being of obvious military value, and by the accounts, it sponsored the experiment.

Another unattributed version of the story proposes that researchers were preparing magnetic and gravitational measurements of the seafloor to detect anomalies, supposedly based on Einstein's attempts to understand gravity. In this version, there were also related secret experiments in Nazi Germany to find antigravity, allegedly led by SS-Obergruppenführer Hans Kammler.

The principle that lay behind the Philadelphia Experiment was the Unified Field Theory. This theory states that gravity and magnetism are connected, just as mass and energy are connected through the formula E=mc2. Einstein never solved the Unified Field Theory, but the very nature of the Philadelphia Experiment suggests otherwise. It is probably that this theory has become a government secret because it is capable of doing many things, possibly even space travel without the assistance of rockets.

In a search for actual technical data on the experiment, not much information can be found that isn't tainted with doubt and speculation.

The basic design has two large Tesla coils (electromagnets) placed on each hull of the ship. The coils are turned on in a special sequence and their magnetic force is so powerful that they warp gravity itself.

In the last years of World War II the U.S. military forces, mainly under Dr. Von Neuman, previously assistant to Nikola Tesla, focused their attention on achieving radar invisibility. Tesla later bowed out of the operation in March 1942 due to his lack of confidence in its success, however he appointed Dr Von Neuman to take over. The results of this research have become commonly known as the Philadelphia Experiment, due to the location involved. It was a the Philadelphia Naval Yard that the SS. 

Eldridge was wired with high frequency transformers and charged for the purpose of creating a cloaking device. On August 12. 1945 the Eldridge did disappear and returned four hours later with a great many distortions. The molecular structure of the ship and its crew had obviously been disintegrated and reformed, as some of the crew members returned with their bodies integrated into the steel bulk-head of the ship, other members of the crew were missing. 

The story of this experiment has been most vividly described by two brothers who jumped off the ship while moving through hyperspace and found themselves to have travelled forward in time and space. The time was 2am August 12, 1983 the place Montauk, Long Island where a similar experiment had been set into operation to link with the Eldridge, in order to destroy the generators on board the ship which were out of control. 

In Tesla's version of the document and a description of UAVs, which have large military forces perfected many years later. The only problem, for which Tesla could be further advanced in his ideas, is because for most of his inventions did not have adequate light and strong materials.

The drone Tesla writes: - "In a, imperfect way, is possible, with today's radio-electrical appliances, discarded aircraft, compel it to fly a certain direction approximately, and to perform certain actions at a distance of several hundred miles. The machine of this type , can be managed in several ways, and I have no doubt at all that it can prove useful in the war. I have devoted years of studying these things and I found the means to easily achieve this and even greater miracles."

Allegedly, in the fall of 1943 a U.S. Navy destroyer was made invisible and teleported from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Norfolk, Virginia, in an incident known as the Philadelphia Experiment. Records in the Operational Archives Branch of the Naval Historical Center have been repeatedly searched, but no documents have been located which confirm the event, or any interest by the Navy in attempting such an achievement.

I'm aware it doesn't exactly have to do with the zombie storyline itself but that last video with the WW1 Aerial footage was OUTSTANDING! To see into the past almost 100 years during a time of great loss and sadness, seeing those people who's lives have been completely shattered and changed below, it's with great sorrow and pride that I remember our past brethren who carried these burdens and helped mold the world we see today.

Nice thread, but to me it doesn't look like they disappear at all, It looks like they are simply enveloped in dense fog and when the lightning strikes the zeppelin is silhouetted against the sky. Then when the lightning fades it is once more envelope in the fog, making it look like it has disappeared.

@ Kered - I've been watching a lot of World War 1 film & the imagery is truly devastating. The guy on that clip sums it up completely "I think this will change alot of people's perceptions of the first world war"

@ Briggzy - I have rewatched the trailer a lot of times & you are probably right, in real time it doesn't look like they disappear, though I was taking lots of frame captures & with the ones I posted, it looks like they just vanish? It may just be the lighting, I was pretty drunk the first time I watched the trailer, maybe I was just seeing things

Though it seems that when the lightning strikes down to the ground, that these strikes are coming from the Airships? It will be interesting if the Biplanes, Airships & Electrical strikes have any gameplay impact or if they are just included for atmosphere?

Another thing I would like to know is if they are German or French Planes & Airships? Are they on our side or are they on the Giants?

Something is telling me that the Zeppelins are German.

What I'm thinking is that all the robots,Zeppelins and zombies are German and then the biplanes are Non-German.

Zeppelins were utilised in World War 1 for bombing runs. The Germans had two main manufacturers of these, the Schutte-Lanz Company, and the larger and better known Zeppelin Company. Throughout 1914 these were used for reconnaissance patrols over the North Sea, but the German Admiralty was pressing for permission to use them for attacks against England. The first Zeppelin raid upon England took place on January 19, 1915. The ship used was named the Kaiser. Similar attacks had been taken out on France. Particularly Paris and Calais.

These Zepplins could be put in the game for much the same reason that the planes were. As scenery. Although it would be cool for them to be used as a new utility in the game.

I have also rematches the trailer multiple times. It looks as though the "beam of light" shooting out of its tail is simply a rain droplet falling past.

Also to note, if you zoom in on the DLC Card, you can see that the energy beam is going into the center of the Megalith formation.

To me these seem more like power going up into the sky from the ruins, creating a cloud vortex, instead of lightning coming down into it.

Maybe the ruins allowed the creation of the first mystery box?
