Factors behind our enjoyment of zombies

What's up guys. This site to me has always been split into 2 main groups of users -

- Storyline specialists and

- Strategy specialists

This isn't definitive, and there are what you could call lurkers, or casual users but most people are coming here for one thing or the other.

There are also the guys who enjoy both parts of it.

Strategy group would also include people who just enjoy playing the game.

The users still on this site have stuck through up to 4 years of down time, dead time etc.

The only thing that brings me back is the strategy behind the game. I just love playing. I don't care how they got to any map in particular, just the mechanics behind the map.

Are any of you out there people who only enjoy zombies because of the storyline that was attached to it?

Also, are there any strategy people out there who only enjoyed it when they were able to strategise to a deep level, the best way to play a map?

This game has massive longevity to me, mainly because I just love playing, just because.

Are there any users who don't actually enjoy the playing, and were only around for the story?

Im definetely a strategy guy. While i find the deep story intriguing, and have deep admiration and respect for names such as MurdermachineX,Tac,AlphaSnake,MixmasterNut,and so on what drew me to CodZ was the strategy guys.More specifically,Superhands.More specifically,Superhands Solo Zombies survival guide. Strategies the main reason i love this place, well besides off topic and the wonderful family i have their.

Of course,no matter what Ill be sticking around,be it for a one year wait,a two year wait, or *shudder* a Forever if zombies was to end here.Im Monkey, and thats what I have to say today. ;)

I'm a bit of both, I've kinda fell for the story that is being told. I liked reading the theories for the story where have we been where are we going.

The CoDz forum, to be honest I've ran a few forums over the years and personally I would ditch PHPBB, it's (insert expletive here). I still host - we had a thriving community on this for years & then things such as bebo, facebook and others popped up and the community sort of disappeared. At the height we would have our listener count on the radio maxed and the chatroom full. Not plugging here btw, just that the website was a for an extremely popular DJ in Scotland and a dear friend of mine who passed away.

Slightly off topic I know, but I'll get the to the point. I thought my days of forum community involvement had disappeared. I found CoDz, I lurked for a while and decided to grab the bull by the horns and join and here I 'am.

My enjoyment of Zombies boils down to the community, not just here but in general. Those that know how to play the game make it a fun experience, those that don't make it frustrating as hell.

I came primarily for the story. Had it not been for that, I wouldn't be here nor would I truly even glance so much at what the new maps meant. You could even say that I am a sucker for a damn good storyline - and so far, Zombies is #1 on my list. It's amazing how everyone can come together - like a real life Group 935 - and perform research an levels which you don't usually see in any other game. To us, Zombies isn't a game; it's a lifestyle.

The storyline bores me, I have never been even remotely attached to the storyline. With that said, I know the majority of guys on here are for the theories and such, and we have had some of the very best users piped from that section.

I came for guys like Superhands, Tom and Choppy and the strategy section. I like exploring the intricacies of the gameplay and how to improve upon the results from the mental aspects. The same reasons why I enjoy YouTube, where I could study and analyse gameplay and incorporate them into my game.

And I like to troll other users. I have never shied away from it or cared how I'm perceived.

It should be obvious: I'm a player/strategizer.

Obsessively collecting/sharing gameplay and strategy(even cheats/glitches where allowed-never online, never to achieve a high round, just to explore and have fun).

The story? How people take badly written blurbs that are inconsistent and lacking and wring an actual workable story out of it, is not my thing, but I'm glad they find their enjoyment where they do and wish them happy adventures. But that is not my thing.

I think on some level we enjoy the macabre: it's not the zombies, it's the killing, it's punching a zombie with the brofists and watching him sail through the air and land in a crumpled heap. It's blowing somethings head off. Look at gta; who didn't enjoy watching innocent digital folk flying through the air as you drive through a crowd?

Look how coveted the gore from waw was/is. Zombies still holds a piece of that for us.

Now, couple that with my obsessive thinking, which works well for strategizing, and I'm a zombie fan.

Off topic: if you love obsessive strategizing too, learn Magic: the gathering (learning the rules is like getting a degree, but omg, so worth it for obsessively straining the grey matter to new highs of thinking). Wanna stay smart? Learn/play that game.

For me it has to be story.

The only reason I started playing zombies to be honest, when I saw some video on "The Hidden Story Behind Nazi Zombies" and I was amazed at all the hidden easter eggs hidden around every single map, the old classic radios.

It also creeped me out slightly when I saw what occured on Moon. [Yes I saw the ending before I played zombies, frankly IDC about spoilers.]

Then I got around to watching the theories. Some were very interesting, even if old. [i.E Watching Der Riese theories from 2009 when Rezurection came out]

And when I finally got my 360 [i had WAW and BO on Wii, but WAW didn't have zombies on Wii and BO only had Kino] I downloaded Rezurection and COTD and spent a long time searching for radios and other EE's and as listed above, kinda creeped out when I found out out "Fearsome ruler" was a young child and the fact the hell hounds came from a mutated dog.

TL;DR

The story.
