Hey Guys,

We are going with TOTW, and Craig has already installed the mod/hook and it's populated with the biggest thread CODZ has produced, MMX trilogy.

There are still a few different and contrasting suggestions as to how we will implement this, so I'm going to poll it.

Main things are who decides the winner, should we invite thread suggestions and should there be a medal?

Thanks guys,

Chopper

The reason I don't think people should vote on it and it should just be a Mod decision is because when there is an outstanding thread, the Mods know about it.  They are all over the forums.  They know what is deserving.

What happens when Shooter has an amazing thread that blows Theorists minds, but only gets 20 responses.  Then you've got Chicken Sandwich thread with tons of responses.  The people vote and Chicken Sandwiches has much more votes because of all the people nominating it because that's all they do on this site.

Let Mods decide.

I think for funsies you should consider allowing uotm to help with the decisions if they desire. Gives the position some neat duties. Besides, who better to locate and evaluate great topics, than the current greatest user?

Basically, In order to introduce fresh views in the nomination and voting, along with staff, I'd like to see UotM involvement.

It's up to you guys to decide how much staff does, and how much UotM does, but I think it'd be a neat thing to try out.

Also UotM winners should be asked if they want to be involved too. I don't forsee many people turning it down, but we shouldn't force it.

I'm definitely for the mods picking the topic. Feels more rewarding knowing the staff chose the thread I think for reasons I stated on the other thread.

Also definitely at least have a medal for having a topic featured. Additional medals could be optional, such as one for winning it multiple times as I also suggested. I also made some example medals in the other thread on this topic if the mods want to use them.

I would like to see a non staff committee designed to do this. I also like the UOTM involvement.

Perhaps along the lines of Mega, Undad, Boom, and Slade, plus UOTM and one staff. Imagine the ass kissing that will come with staff related decisions.

BTW, I would like to say that all staff members are doing an excellent job. All you guys are cool and hip. Please pick my topic.............

The UotM was my idea on Non-staff involvement.

I am against full forum voting and participation, just because of the lost efficiency compared to the importance of the award.

If there are good ideas on how to set up group of staff and non-staff to decide, I'd be open to it.

To be honest, I like Choppers original idea of voting on the topic, but I think time frames for votes and so forth could be critical. Maybe utilising the UoTM for suggesting to us topics for the week is a role they could fulfill and possibly the better solution?

Obviously the reward for UoTM is the cyan robes and that in itself is a decent recognition, maybe having the ability to nominate a topic each week. whilst they are UoTM could be a benefit of the robes. We could potentially add more onto that as well.

With the robes comes responsibility for that month, they could approve calendar events for example, approve streams (just examples) could be worth investigating further.

If it's staff that picks, it may be a little unfair when a staff member makes a TOTW worthy thread. I mean how do they nominate and vote for themselves without sounding like an arse. And than if other staff voted for that thread, some people might think it's a little unfair.

Ideally it probably needs to be a mix of staff and non-staff. Six people in it I guess. Everyone, or five people would have to agree on a thread for it to be nominated/win. If one of the group has a TOTW worthy thread, than the five others in the group decide on it. Basically a person in the group can't be involved when it comes to their own thread.

Thanks, Jay.

I'm with Rissole that a mix between staff and non-staff would be ideal.

Chopper and Boom have been pretty vocal about the whole recommended standard of thread quality discussion and I often find myself on the same page with them on this subject so I would like to see them in this committee.

The decision is so close between mod and user decides, that I am sure we are going to take the idea that a few of you guys had, and do a mix of staff and non staff.

I see the site as split into 3 areas - social, theory and strategy.  Future zombies can either sit with theory or strategy.

It makes sense to me to have 3 staff, 3 users and UOTM to ensure no ties.

Ideally those chosen would either sit across the 3 areas, or specialise in one.

Keep throwing up names of suitable candidates for the committee and then the staff will make a decision on who will be in it :)

Sounds good Chopper. Seven people. Hopefully with a diversive range in it all.

There's so many people that I'm not sure who to vote for, for this. I definitely would like to see Chopper in it though.

Ok guys I have set a close on the poll for 18:00 tomorrow.  I'm guessing that is determined by my board timezone so it will be mid morning to early afternoon across the US.

Unless the poll shows a very clear winner on the decision we will go with what is being suggested.  If you don't want to nominate users within the thread, please pm them to me.

The staff will then make a decision tomorrow after the poll closes to determine the committee, before opening a thread for suggestions.

I'd initially go for myself (strategy), way (social) and Grill(theory/storyline).

I'd love to have MMX involved but as he wasn't fully behind this I'll leave the decision up to him (where's that tagging option when I need it!).

Too many other good users, I wouldn't even know where to start.  I'm thinking maybe they should all be former UOTM?

I would personally recommend Samara for the social part of CoDZ.

She welcomes (new) users with open arms, offers people useful advice when needed and she can always be found somewhere in our community center.

I really like the involvement of the UoTM having some roles like this. What about letting the UotM decide the weekly Featured Threads?

That speeds up the whole decision making process so that all 5 or 7 people involved don't have to make a vote every week. Give the UotM some perks for being the UotM? Easy. They just PM a nominated staff member.

But I also like the idea of 3 or 4 members making up a commitee. What about inducting & reinstating some dwellers?

I couldn't decide if multiple or a single award should be given for Thread of the Week? I wouldn't mind either way.

I personally think Pinnaz, Boom, Rissole, Undad, Mega amongst others are all worthy of being in the committee, to many to mention but I think a few people are in line for this - maybe 3 to 6 months appointment and then open up the committe to others to take over for 3 to 6 months and so forth.

Ok, ok, voting has now closed.

We are actually going to do the first TOTW next Saturday, 19th April.

This gives Zombie Trilogy more time in the spotlight, and enables us to get the committee setup and medals sorted.

Thanks for voting guys.

If you want someone for the committee I would love to be a part of that. Of course the others mentioned probably have a bit more prestige on the site, but I'm always here if you need me!

Did you guys forget about this?

I was just thinking about this myself, I haven't heard any new developments.

Sorry I thought I responded to this on Saturday when it was due to start; we are going to go ahead with it now from this upcoming Saturday.
