Kino der Toten - Solo Strategy

Recommended Posts

Posted

I know there are a billion and one solo strategy guides available for Kino der Toten, but would like to add my specific approach to the mix... this is a strategy I recently followed to reach my first Level 50 - unlike a lot of strategies, this one doesn't require an insane amount of skill [fortunately for me] so may be of interest to the average player...

Level 1

Wait until Zombies breach, and then shoot each Zombie three times in the chest and knife to kill. If two Zombies approach together shoot six-shots through both Zombies for additional [collateral damage] points. Fix all downstairs windows.

Level 2

Purchase M14 of the wall for 500 points.

Camp at the top of the stairs, near the upstairs window. Stab Zombies once as they approach the upstairs window and again as soon as they breach – you should be able to kill all the Zombies that spawn upstairs before facing the Zombies that spawn downstairs. However, keep an eye on the stairs at all times as you do not want to get trapped by a fast Zombie approaching behind you.

Hold the top of the stairs, and shoot each Zombie five times in the chest and then knife to kill (make sure you maximise opportunities for collateral damage). Unless you get a max ammo, you will run out of pistol ammunition before the end of the level, so just stab Zombies twice once you’re out of ammo. Leave the last Zombie alive until you have fixed all the downstairs windows and then stab twice to finish the round.

Any time you get a Max Ammo during the first nine Levels, ensure you completely use your M1911 Pistol ammunition before you switch back to your M14.

Level 3

Fix the upstairs window at the start of the level and hold the top of stairs / upstairs window position. Kill all Zombies that approach the upstairs window with two M14 shots and a stab. Keep an eye on the stairs to your left – once Zombies begin to swarm up the stairs, fall-back along the balcony towards the M14 wall-buy, shooting and stabbing Zombies as you retreat. If you feel under pressure, just shoot a couple of the fastest Zombies three times with your M14 to get the situation back under control. Sometimes it’s easiest to run / jump down the stairs towards the Quick Revive and horde the Zombies in the bottom area of the Lobby before heading back upstairs kill them. Leave the last Zombie alive, and fix all windows before finishing the round.

Level 4

Begin the level near the M14 wall-buy and attack the Zombies on this round using a combination of three M14 shots and your knife to maximise points for one last round. You’ll quickly be swamped in the Lobby, so just open the door into the Portrait Room (750 points) and then down into the Foyer (1,000 points), to give you additional room to fall-back into. Kill Zombies as you retreat using three M14 shots and your knife.

By the time you reach the bottom of the Foyer, you should have thinned out the horde enough to be able to stop retreating; however, if there is still pressure, feel free to open up the Dressing Room and even the Theatre if you need additional room to retreat into. Leave at least one Zombie alive and open up any remaining doors into the Theatre.

Turn on the Power and link the Teleporter to the Mainframe. Purchase the Bowie Knife for 3,000 points. If you are a little short of points, head back into the Lobby and fix all the windows for additional points and then kill the last remaining Zombie to finish the level.

Level 5, 6 or 7 First Hellhound Round

You’ll get the first Hellhound round during Round 5, 6 or 7. This is completely straightforward – hold the centre of the stage in the Theatre, and stab each Hellhound with the Bowie Knife as it approaches you. Reload your weapons before killing the last Hellhound and collect the Max Ammo power-up. Remember to make use of your M1911 Pistol ammunition at the start of the subsequent round (shot a clip into approaching Zombies before stabbing with your Bowie Knife to kill).

Levels 5 to 9 Zombies Rounds

You will be using your Bowie Knife to one-stab kill Zombies during Rounds 5 to 9. Begin each round on the Stage in the Theatre and stab Zombies that approach you. Once Zombies begin to horde in the Theatre, run up the centre of the Theatre into the Lobby. Stand by the Teleporter mainframe and wait until Zombies begin to approach from the Theatre. Stab the Zombies with your Bowie Knife and retreat up the stairs and into the Portrait Room and Lobby if you need additional space.

As soon as you have 2,500 points, purchase Juggernog. You should now have the following loadout:-

  • M1911 Pistol
  • M14 Rifle
  • Bowie Knife
  • Juggernog

At the end of each level, run back to the Theatre and repeat the above strategy – you may need to retreat further as the Levels progress to allow you sufficient time and space to kill all the Zombies with your Bowie Knife – just follow the upstairs route around the map i.e. Theatre, to Lobby, to Portrait Room, to Foyer, to Dressing Room and back to Theatre if necessary.

Your main enemy at this point is the Nuke power-up, which you will inevitably get at least once. Towards the end of Level 9, leave two of the slower Zombies alive to enable you to gear-up…

Use the Teleporter to the Projector Room and Pack-a-Punch your M1911 Pistol into Mustang & Sally for 5,000 points. Purchase Quick Revive for 500 points when you are teleported back into the Lobby and then re-link the Teleporter and Mainframe. Purchase Claymore Mines from the Theatre for 1,000 points. Head up to the Portrait Room and purchase Mule Kick for 4,000 points and then pick-up the MP40 from the Foyer for 1,000 points – this will be your points weapon. You should now have the following loadout:-

  • Mustang & Sally (Support Weapon)
  • M14
  • MP40 (Points Weapon)
  • Bowie Knife
  • Claymore Mines
  • Juggernog
  • Quick Revive
  • Mule Kick

Level 10, 11 or 12 Second Hellhound Round

You should get a second Hellhound round at Level 10, 11 or 12. Use exactly the same approach as for the first Hellhound round – stand in the middle of the stage and stab-kill Hellhounds with your Bowie Knife as they approach you.

Levels 10, 11 and 12 Zombies Rounds

Continue to use our Bowie Knife, where possible, for the two Zombies rounds between Levels 10 and 12 (with the other one of these three Levels being a Hellhound round). Use your M14 and shoot each Zombie 3-4 times in the chest and then kill with your Bowie Knife – this is very similar to the strategy used for Levels 3 and 4, just replacing your starting Knife with the Bowie Knife. There will be 33 Zombies at Level 10, rising to 37 Zombies at Level 12, so you will need to maintain a steady defensive retreat around the upstairs route – do not remain static at any point for too long, as you want to avoid allowing Zombies to spawn behind you. Once you have retreated around the full upstairs route and returned to the Theatre, you should be able to hold the back and centre of the stage whilst finishing off the remaining Zombies with your M14 and Bowie Knife. If you are under pressure at any point, just use your M14 or MP40 to kill-off the faster Zombies at the front of the horde, and then revert back to M14 / Bowie Knife kills once back under control. If you run out of M14 bullets, just move on to your MP40 – don’t bother topping up your M14 ammunition unless you get a Max Ammo power-up.

Levels 13 to 19

For the remaining rounds before Level 20, we will be using the MP40 to maximise points. You’ll be hording Zombies, running the upstairs route of the map and killing using your MP40. Begin on the Stage in the Theatre and run a few loops around the Stage area to allow the Zombies to spawn in the Theatre and begin to horde (suggested route shown with green arrows in the diagram below). Head up the centre of the Theatre to the Lobby – take care not to get trapped as you head up the steps into the Lobby – if you hug the left of the stairs, you can easily run around the right-hand side of any Zombies that appear in front of you.

Just spray fire from the hip as the Zombie horde approaches, you’ll be almost guaranteed to hit three Zombies with each bullet so with 192 bullets in the MP40, you’ll be racking-up around 5,000 points at a cost of 500 points for an MP40 refill! Stand near the Mainframe and shoot Zombies until they are close, then move to stand at the bottom of the stairs on the Quick Revive side and wait until the lead Zombies have turned towards you – at this point, run towards the closest window (on the Quick Revive side) and across the front of the Zombies then up the stairs (shown with green arrows in the diagram above). Stand at the top of the stairs and shoot Zombies, then track along the balcony to the Portrait Room and spray MP40 fire into them from the doorway. Head to the back of the Portrait Room and spray MP40 fire into the horde until they nearly reach you – then run out the door and take a left as you enter the Foyer

Take-up position in the Foyer near the Stakeout wall-buy and spray more MP40 fire into the horde – once the lead Zombies approach, run down the stairs to the bottom of the Foyer and into the Dressing Room – hold a position at the back of the Dressing Room so you can see through the doorway into the Foyer and through the other doorway into the Theatre. Shoot more MP40 bullets into the horde and move back into the Theatre as they approach. Stand inside the Theatre doorway and spray more fire into the Zombies – track along the back of the Stage, pulling the horde with you and then once you’ve reached the far-side, cut across the front of the stage and repeat the strategy until almost all Zombies are dead. Keep one or two of the slower Zombies alive at the end of each round to enable you to gear up.

First locate the Mystery Box and keep hitting the Box until you obtain the Thundergun, Ray Gun and Monkey Bombs – replace your M14 first, and replace the Mustang & Sally with the Ray Gun as and when that suits your gameplay. As soon as you have the Thundergun, you can purchase Speed Cola for 3,000 points before returning to the Mystery Box to complete your loadout:-

  • Thundergun (Support Weapon)
  • Mustang & Sally / Ray Gun
  • MP40 (Points Weapon)
  • Bowie Knife
  • Claymore Mines
  • Monkey Bombs
  • Juggernog
  • Quick Revive
  • Mule Kick
  • Speed Cola

Levels 20 to 29 [Electricity Trap Strategy]

For the next ten rounds, we’ll follow a similar strategy to the one set-out above, but we’ll be using the Electricity Trap to eliminate one horde of Zombies. Begin in the Theatre and horde the Zombies before heading out to the Lobby, bunching the Zombies at the bottom of the stairs and pulling them up through the Portrait Room, Foyer and Dressing Room before returning to the Theatre. Stop and spray-fire your MP40 into the horde at regular intervals, and once you are back in the Theatre, track along the back of the Stage and return along the front of the Stage to re-bunch your horde.

Check to ensure the route out to the Lobby is Zombie-free and then repeat the bunching manoeuvre in the Lobby and pull the Zombies to the top of the staircase. Sprint into the Portrait Room and activate the Electricity Trap – keep sprinting out of the Portrait Room and take a right as you enter the Foyer – run straight down the staircase and grab a refill for your MP40 if needed. Run straight through the Dressing Room and back into the Theatre, where you can track along the back of the Stage before running a few loops to gather another horde of Zombies. Pull these Zombies back along the upstairs route, spraying MP40 into the horde and once you reach the Foyer, sprint down into the Dressing Room and activate the Electricity Trap to eliminate a second horde of Zombies. You should be able to finish off any remaining Zombies in the Theatre with your Mustang and Sally / Ray Gun without the need to run another route around the map.

Levels 30+ [Electricity and Fire Trap Strategy]

From this point onwards, we’ll building on the previous strategy, by adding a trip around the bottom route of the map and using the Fire Trap to eliminate another horde. We’ll alternate between the top route (Electricity Trap) and bottom route (Fire Trap), which should help to prevent to Zombies spawning in front of you. You’ll want to keep your Thundergun in hand at all times now, apart from when you stop and spray-fire your MP40 for points – if save your Thundergun ammunition for emergencies, you shouldn’t have any trouble at any stage – if you get into any difficulty at any stage, just blast your Thundergun and run forwards into the space it creates, which should provide you with the opportunity to recover your composure and pick-up the horde again so you can continue your route.

Begin in the Theatre and horde the Zombies. Pull the horde around the top route of the map and activate the Electricity Trap in the Dressing Room, before returning to the Theatre to gather another horde of Zombies. Tightly bunch the second horde of Zombies before leaving the Theatre and pull them into the Fire Trap room – activating the Fire Trap on your way through and then sprinting around the full lower route of the map (Fire Trap Room, to Alley, to Boiler Room and back into the Theatre). Gather a third horde of Zombies in the Theatre and run the upper route again, activating the Electricity Trap in the Dressing Room.

Remember to keep spraying Zombies with MP40 fire as you pull your hordes around the map. Keep alternating between the Electricity and Fire Trap routes until your final horde of Zombies (you will be able to tell when the last Zombies spawn, as it will usually form a smaller group than a full horde (i.e. less than 26 Zombies). Eliminate the final horde with your Ray Gun / Mustang & Sally and begin the strategy again for the next level.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Recovering from a Down

It is inevitable that you’ll go down at some point. When you go down, use your Ray Gun / Mustang & Sally to kill any Zombies that are stood right on top of you. As soon as you are revived, get your Thundergun in hand (if it isn’t already) shoot any Zombies in front of you with the Thundergun and head immediately to the Theatre (follow your instincts here, if you are heading right back into the horde of Zombies by the most direct route, it makes more sense to follow the longer route around the map and pull the Zombies around behind you). Don’t make any mistakes at this stage – if Zombies appear in front of you, use your Thundergun to clear the path. Head through the Theatre towards Juggernog and stop just before you enter the alcove where Juggernog and the Bowie Knife are situated. Throw a Monkey Bomb down the centre of the Theatre towards the stage and then quickly grab Juggernog and head into the Lobby to quickly grab Quick Revive – head upstairs to the Portrait Room and grab Mule Kick and then re-purchase the MP40 as your third weapon. Grab Speed Cola from the Foyer and then sprint through the Dressing Room into the Theatre to begin to re-gather your horde.

If you have used all three available Quick Revives, purchase Double Tap Root Beer instead.

Hellhound Rounds

Once you’ve completed the second Hellhound round with your Bowie Knife, you should use your Thundergun on all subsequent Hellhound rounds. If you are short on Thundergun ammunition, make sure you gather both Hellhounds before you dispatch them with the Thundergun.

Final Loadout

As and when you have enough spare points, Pack-a-Punch the Ray Gun, for the additional ammunition and the increased splash damage. Wait until you are low on Thundergun ammunition before upgrading to the Zeus Cannon:-

  • Zeus Cannon (Support Weapon)
  • Porter’s X2 Ray Gun
  • MP40 (Points Weapon)
  • Bowie Knife
  • Claymore Mines
  • Monkey Bombs
  • Juggernog
  • Mule Kick
  • Speed Cola
  • Double Tap Root Beer

I hope this is of use or interest to some players... I'm intending to work through the Zombie maps, developing low-skill solo strategies that will enable me to hit 50 on each.

Feedback and constructive criticism from experienced players would also be appreciated.

Thanks :D

Tis very good.

Not entirely sure a strategy that begins Bowie before Jugg and sallies too is for real beginners but I understand that the rest of it is.

Tbh the way you have explained how to play, is the best way for someone to learn multiple techniques enabling them to slowly but surely improve their skill level.

My first 40 coop was the highest I had ever gotten on any map (only been playing 2 weeks total zombies) and did it almost exactly as you have described. Rounding the map slowly is the best way to begin as you learn spawn spots, zones and timings.

I'd elaborate only in that once you feel comfortable with all this, start hoarding everything on the stage and using TG for one hoard and then repeating.

Brains and props for this. Plus your name is epic for multiple reasons.

I agree it's a very well written strategy, the only part I somewhat disagree with is that I'm not sure it makes a whole lot of sense to be using the traps that early on?  Unless you don't have a Zeus Cannon yet that is, but by 20 i'd say it's going to be likely you'll have one already.

Regardless, I love the way this is formatted, very clean and easy to use. kudos!

Thanks for the replies and encouragement  :D

I am working on my skills in terms of hording zombies in e.g. the Theatre only and using TG blasts to take out hordes... but am still prone to getting slapped at the sides of the stage hence the above 'safe' strategy to hit 50... I will take cautious encouragement to work on a similar skill-level strategy for "Five" next.
