Bowie Knife and Galvaknuckles, they feel a bit different

I've been playing a bit of Nuketown Zombies recently. In that, one of my priorities is to get the Galvaknuckles as soon as possible (I buy a wall gun like the AK-74u in the process, as I can't get that many points with just a pistol).

While using the Galvaknuckles, I found them to miss now and again and be a little bit clunky. I thought this was due to the general knife mechanics, which in my opinion function a lot worse than in BO1.

However, one time I decided to pick up a Bowie Knife along the way. I found when using it that it felt overall easier to use. One thing that I had the impression of was that the recovery time between melees was a bit shorter than with the Galvaknuckles.

So is it just my mind fooling me, or is there an actual difference in the way these two melee weapons operate, besides damage?

Also, am I right to skip the Bowie and go straight for the 'Knuckles, or do you guys recommend getting the Bowie first for that earlier one-hit-kill in the BO2 maps?

In the end, it makes more sense to use the galvaknuckles - because they are a one hit kill for longer then the Bowie knife.

Bowie knife is a one hit kill until round 10 I believe.

Galvs are a one hit kill until round 14.

Also, it may be just me, but I feel like you melee faster with the galvs.

Yeah, I did some more playing and the Galvaknuckles seem to react faster when the melee button is pressed, the animation seems to be shorter.

After doing more playing with the Bowie Knife and moving on to the 'Knuckles, the recovery time between melees doesn't seem to have the difference I thought it did before. Maybe my mind was fooling me.

I still think knifing is worse than it was in BO1, however.

The knuckles animation is definitely quicker - it's literally a jab, as opposed to a slap.

Without doing any testing, I'd suspect that the recovery is exactly the same, but the Bowie may appear faster as it's animation is a bit longer.

BO1 knifing was perfect.

Ya I agree with the people above. The bowie knife is clunky as hell and takes literally like two seconds to complete its animation. Which dosent sound like alot but in a close quarters zombies situation...it is. Galvas take about 0.8 seconds at the most, and do more damage...

Good analogy Chopper, it's basically a jab vs a hook.

Depends on the map for me, I might get the bowie knife on Tranzit just to have fun with the bus, and to get denizens off me early in the game. I usually run backwards from Tranzits spawn so by the time I get to town, the bowie knife is just a few steps into the fog. I don't worry about knuckles on this map so much. Die Rise I get them instantly but that's more to get those free perks faster, with a knife the jumpers can gang up on you too fast so I just punch'm in the face!

Other than that, I guess I'd put knuckles over the knife on other maps.

I think the animation is a bit deceptive too. The melee recovery with Galvaknucles without any zombies near me seems megafast compared to when they're actually being used. :S

Maybe the Galvakunckles are faster with the initial hit, but I'm still convinced that the recovery time is less (even if melees per second is the same or less with the 'Knucles). For me this makes the 'Knucles harder to handle, at least in the sense of trying to melee everything in sight.

In terms of which one to go for, I suppose it does depend on the map and the situation.

On a similar topic, when do you stop running to meleeing everything and start to train? As soon as the melee weapon loses it's OHK or is there certain round when the zombies spawn too fast?

This is why I use the bowie on die rise, the knife, is logically much larger, and has a much wider hotbox. The galvas, while stronger, have a smaller hit box.

Try it,

Take a large knife and swipe it, record the area of damage, now punch with your fist, MUCH smaller radius yes?
