"Spiritual Succesor" Maps

This is a topic that has got me wondering lately, it started with Kino der Toten which was the cancelled fifth DLC for World at War. It then became one of the first maps on disc in Black Ops, but due to being built for World at War it is essentially a spiritual successor to the zombies series in that game.

Continuing to Black Ops 2, we get Nuketown Zombies. This is essentially the next spirtual successor map and is a tribute to the Black Ops style of maps in my opinion. It feels like a Black Ops map to me, even though it has things from Black Ops 2 of course but just something about it and the connections to Moon make it the successor to Black Ops for me.

Soon we'll have the Giant. The successor to Black Ops 2. Of course it will be a Black Ops 3 map but form the looks of it, it will follow the theme Kino der Toten and Nuketown Zombies did by being a sort of tribute to their last game.

Now for my main question, what does everyone think of these types of maps? Ones which show what a simplistic and improved version of the last games maps are like but in the next game. They personally interest me and I think they can reflect on how things would progress in games with little to no change.
