Treyarch Patched the margwa spawn trick, where you could stop them by entering the rift. It really was just a glitch.

I was fairly sure that was a glitch, because it never worked on 360, and it froze the shadowman.

Well, you may find this helpful... It's the best method for killing Margwas quickly that I could find.

If you let the margwas destroy the flag, after you pick it up and place it ,from the rift area rumor is they all die , the civil protector squashed 2 of my margwas when I called him I didn't even know that would happen

It really seems like this is related to the Upgrade Quest of the Apothicon Servant. As stated in one of the patch notes....

It was a rare issue because most of the time if not 100% of the time, the only time this would happen was during a Solo game.
