Revelations pros and cons

Okay so I think it's time to talk about the pros and the cons of this map. So tell us your thoughts about the final map of BO3 zombies :)

SO I'll start...

Let's begin with the whole map appearance and layout etc... It looks pretty good. I also like how they managed to bring back old maps you instantly recognize, but still make them feel a bit something new. My favorite parts of the map has to be Kino Der Toten and Verrüct. But the problem for me is... that there's a lot less original areas than I first thought there would be. Only starting room and the giant Apothicon... It kinda makes sense they brought back a lot of old stuff to the final map, yet I feel a bit disappointed we didn't get an experience of discovering tons of cool new areas. The map flows pretty cool and it doesn't feel like they just smashed a bunch of maps together and said this is it. They really did a good job there. Also moving from point A to B is quite fast and easy because of the portals and jump pads.

Next up, weapons. The map brought a good amount of new weapons to the box which I Like. Rift-9 is actually pretty good. Banshii as well. I haven't got the Peacekeeper MK2 yet. M1927 is probably my favorite from the new weapons. But my biggest problem is that there is no "bad" weapons brought in... I like how mystery box is useful in this map, but it's not a gamble. You get something usable almost every time...

Specialist weapons, well I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't get a new one. But I like how you get the Ragnarok-DG4 from the box. Also I don't know if there's a way to get other specialists weapons but atm it seems like there is not. but if they had to bring back a used idea Ragnarok was the best choice. The swords are a bit meh to me, Skull of nansapwe is a bit overpowered and Gauntlet Of Siegfried just feels like the only map it should be is GK.

Wonder weapons... Okay we got the wonder weapon in the box which is nice. Actually we got 2. Thunder gun and The Apothicon Servant. I don't like the idea of recycling ww... I would have chosen the staffs if they had to bring back something. But some cool new wonder weapon would have been awesome. Also in solo being able to acquire both ww makes the game a bit too easy... And you can now upgrade Apothicon Servant now as well... With the addition of gobblegums that give you ammo this seems to be one of the biggest flaws of the map for me.

Enemies. There are a ton of different enemies here. Furies, Cursed Keepers, Parasites, Spiders, Margwas, Panzers... The bosses offer a challenge (margwas and Panzers) the rest are there just to annoy you... Elemental Margwas are great and feel like a completely new enemy, Panzer is the same old fella from DE, but still a great boss.

The activation of Pack-a-punch isn't too hard and you also power-up perk-machines with the altars (or whatever they are). And that also brings us to the fact that there is no new perk. This is more of a disappointment to the whole BO3. We only got 1 new perk where as we have got at least 4 new ones in every game before. Though maybe it's better to not make perks like Who's Who just to have a new perk... But they could have at least come up with something.

Time trials from GK are back which is a nice change of pace if you want a different approach to the map.

You can get different masks and hats to boost some of your perks or other abilities. This seems a bit overpowered though. It's fun challenges to do and to get a small reward, but some of the juggernog upgrades are a bit too much I think. Yeah the better the mask the harder the challenge, but that just means that the only players that will be able to get them are the ones that really wouldn't need them. Anyways it's a fun addition, just the juggernog boost is too much.

The map feels like it's... too easy. I don't know. After the confusion within the first few plays I now know how to navigate through the map, getting some of the masks knowing the good training areas etc... it just seems like with the right setup you could go to rounds 50+ pretty easy. I really haven't got time or energy to actually play that much yet.

My conclusion is that it is a good map for now, but I feel like it's gonna get boring very soon :/

At this point in time I can only think of one more con and it's the lack of maps featuring the TranZit crew, and I know that theres going to be things about it in the comics but that's not the point. It feels so wrong to have Revelations without at least one of the maps getting it's own area, why does Mob of the dead have an area but they want to erase TranZit, Die Rise and Buried? I'm upset because I feel like if people didn't complain about these maps so much then they wouldn't be forgotten... There needed to be an area dedicated to one of the maps and it would have probably been Buried. This is the one big thing I really dislike about this map. I feel like i'm dealing with Star Wars again where they erased the prequels from everything... It sucks. This whole thing is just upsetting considering the fact that the TranZit crew maps are better than most of the ones included in Revelations

They implemented the Buried end round music and a small area of the Buried tunnels in between Origins and Mob. It's not much, but at least it's something.

It's not enough though.. I don't know it seems like they put that in there just so people couldn't say that those maps weren't included at all but that whole part of the story is still put to the side. But I guess this is the best we're going to get...

I have to disagree with that. Tranzit is Tranzit... it's pretty bad. I wouldn't say it's better than Verrüct or Shangri-La in anyway. Same goes for Die Rise. It's such a one way map and also a elevator waiting simulator. Only one that could be considered better is Buried but idk as a whole it was a bit "let's smash all these features in one map" kinda feel.

I think i'm just one of the only people who really enjoyed BOII as a whole (except Origins... Please don't hate me.) but it's just my opinion after all and I just like those maps better than some of the ones featured in Revelations

(At least I got see a bit of Mob of the dead again so this map fulfilled one of my wishes)

Truth be told I would've swapped out the areas of Revelations that represent the BO3 maps for older maps. Elements are fine, but I mean the map is a love letter to so many past maps, not the new ones we've gotten in the past year, y'know?

And I also agree with the sentiment that the BO2 maps besides Mob feel like they've been largely swept under the rug, though a comic about Misty's group is a step in the right direction. I remember l... Er, Vonderhar, was it? He asked fans to decide the fate of the N4 on Twitter and he retweeted nothing but tweets asking for them to be killed because they suck. Whether you like them or not, they were around for 3 whole maps, and three whole maps is 3/5 of a season. You'd think they'd get more reference here than they did. I guess you could argue that Revelations is made up of maps the crew has actually visited, and Mob is only included because it was such a huge favorite.

Also seems odd that apparently Moon was left out considering its importance to the plot.

Overall, I think that Revelations came out to be a fun map with great nostalgia, but I still expected a little more.  Maybe my fault for overhyping it, but when I heard that this map was going to be an amalgamation of past zombie maps, I literally expected for all maps to get some sort of representation.  So my first con with this map is that I wished it would have featured one small, iconic location from each past map for exploration.  For the maps that were featured, I think the development team chose awesome areas for each of them, like the stage in Kino der Toten, generator 3 in Origins, part of the cell block and the cafeteria in Mob of the Dead, the starting room in Shangri-La, the undercroft in Der Eisendrache, half of the American side of Verrückt, and using Nacht der Untoten as the main hub area (which I think is the best feature of this map).

So if I had to alter anything about Revelations, my primary goal would be to implement iconic areas from all the other maps.  Here's what I'm thinking:

  • Shi No Numa: The swampy area with the Doctor's Quarters, including the hut too.  Running through the swamp slows your movement like in the original.
  • Der Riese: Teleporter A along with the Animal Testing lab area.  Teleporter doesn't work at all.  Dogs spawn here if you happen to be in the area in the middle of a round.
  • "Five": The War Room without any functioning elevators.  You can still activate all the Def-Cons once per round, and doing so will cause the red teleporter to teleport you to the main hub (Nacht der Untoten).
  • Ascension: Area around Lunar Lander A.  The Lunar Lander is no longer functioning.  Fairly easy to survive here, but this is the only area that spawns zombies with the ability to dodge your bullets.  Staying in this area too long will cause a cosmonaut monkey to start attacking you after landing in a pod from space.
  • Call of the Dead: The entire lighthouse with the watery path that leads to the abandoned house with Stamin-Up.  The water can still freeze players like in the original and is too shallow to swim in.
  • Moon: The biodome with functioning Gravity Lifts.  Every ten minutes, the excavator Epsilon will breach the biodome and cause gravity loss (similar in effect to the zero gravity of Der Eisendrache, but without the ability to boost jump).  Loss of oxygen does not occur.  However, every five minutes after the breach happens, an anomaly occurs and the biodome returns back to normal.  The cycle repeats indefinitely.
  • Green Run: The diner area from the original map.  The lava pits that slowly harm you are still present, but now you can't access the foggy road.  Every so often, you can see the bus flying in the distance only when you are in this area.
  • Nuketown: The entirety of the green house without the cul-de-sac or backyard.  Every five rounds, a random power-up will crash land inside the garage of the house if at least one player happens to be in this area of the map.
  • Die Rise: Definitely the rooftop with the green dragon on it.  It would probably only feature half of the rooftop without any working elevators.  This would be the only part of the map with bottomless pits, resulting in an instant death if you fall down the elevator shafts or off the side of the roof.  Features a PhD Flopper machine floating right outside this part of the map, just out of arm's reach.
  • Buried: Half of the Borough area which should include the candy shop.  Features chalk in the gunsmith building for weapons like the XR-2 and Razorback where you can't get and place anywhere else.
  • Shadows of Evil: The Footlight district.  A plant pod can burst here every other round to reveal a random reward, from a single zombie to a power-up.  Normal yellow parasites and keepers are more likely to spawn here.
  • Zetsubou No Shima: Laboratory B.  Spiders are more likely to spawn here when players are in this part of the map.  This is the only part of the map that features a pool of water deep enough to swim in.
  • Gorod Krovi: The building with the power switch in it.  A dragon will still come and burn the courtyard in front of the building.  During some rounds, Manglers will randomly spawn here.

My biggest pros are that they included the Thundergun and used Nacht der Untoten as the main hub.  I really enjoy this map and I think it was a great way to end the zombies storyline.

While the map is beautiful visually, honestly, it didn't feel like Treyarch tried very hard with the map. It was more honestly just a "best of" collection essentially, in regards to areas and weapons. It just felt like their was no real innovation when they reuse that stuff.

The story was also a bit disappointing. While I'm thankful for a Kino radio explanation, why was Sophia made so important? Why was she the key to everything? What is her power level if she can disable Shadowman, which 4 Keepers had to do. Why are her bones there and why is her body a Shadows zombie? (that one pissed me off the most).

Richtofen's blood vial plan was a bust. We got shit all on Samantha and the children even though everything (especially The Giant) seemed to build up to it. I still hate Deus Ex Monty even though he is funny.

If I had a pro, I will say I loved the redesigned old maps. Kino and Verruckt looked great!

I agree 100%. We JUST PLAYED Der Eisendrache and now we get it again in a large portion of the new map. Swap that with the down town area of buried.

They really should have brought PHD back too. Make it really hard to get to somehow. They could have slapped the buried maze in some corner of the map with infinitely spawning ghost ladies only in the maze with like 5 locations for PHD in it.
