Purgatory Chasm + Hobomoko

Right, lets go.

In the Wardens office there is a notice board, which has various things posted onto it.

One of these things are a newspaper headline which says "Purgatory, NM, 1932". I realised that this was a place rather than an event or a person, more specifically New Mexico

After some searching I found that there is a nature trail near Silver City called Purgatory Chasm.

Along with this I also found a page detailing the chasm itself and its history:

http://www.planetary.brown.edu/mappers/Fieldtrip_2003/Purgatory.html

One part that particularly piqued my interest was this:

According to legend, Hobomoko (the Native American devil) carried a woman to Purgatory Chasm after she had murdered a "white man". When the woman began to fight, Hobomoko hit her head against a boulder and attacked her with a tomahawk. The bowl-like depressions show where her head hit the boulder, the ax-marks where the tomahawk struck, and the footprints in the vein of stone where he carried his victim’s body to the edge of the fissure.

First of all I would like to say that this is another mention of a "devil" character, joining the ranks of Mictlantcuhtli, Satan, and perhaps Hades with the 3 headed "Cerberus" dog in MOTD. Secondly the use of the tomahawk is a nice one, and this can be described as a Hell's Retriever as Hobomoko stole the women's life with it. Although I'm not a geologist this might relate to Jimmy Z's link in his twitter description about Geological Slabs

Just thought I would share ;)

Hm, that is very interesting. The relation between Hobomoko taking the woman's life with the tomahawk is almost parallel with us taking the "lives" of the zombies with the Hell's Retriever in order to gain the Hell's Redeemer. Perhaps that is where to tomahawk justifiably comes into the game.

Nice discovery, friendo. :)

Thanks infest :)

Just found something else, a story about Hobomoko and a man called Cheepi:

http://www.ucan-online.org/legend.asp?legend=5800&category=7

Basically the first part of this tells us about how Hobomoko finds a man called Cheepi and tells Cheepi that at some point all of creation will break apart and the darkened and evil things will come rushing in. So basically the end of the world

Cheepi asks what to do and this is his answer:

"If I were you," Hobomoko told him, "I would try to protect myself. I would try to find all the magic I could and surround myself with spells to protect me when the dark times come and everything starts coming apart."

Now this could relate to the story, if you think of the warden as Cheepi, Hobomoko is trying to get the warden to collect all these magical things: Perks, Acid gat kit, crystal skulls, and perhaps because the warden cannot find any more he tries to use normal skulls and candles as well. But all this time it is just making Hobomoko stronger.

Then again I've been searching for an hour, so it might just be desperation making links. Oh well ;)

@ihurt420 yeah I also have seen those on the PaP ed guns.

I have also seen these alchamists circles:

That circle is "The Transmutation Circle". A transmutation circle is a sigil or sign for a specific magical purpose. The sigil combines a complex combination of symbols and text to reach a goal or purpose as predetermined by an alchemist.

The pentacle is quite the opposite of its unfortunate reputation, the pentacle is a symbol of harmony, health and mystic powers. The Pythagoreans adopted it as a sign of health and the marriage of heaven and earth. As a sign of heaven, earth, as well as human body and mind, the pentacle holds great power. So much so, that it was used as a protective emblem among alchemists and magicians alike. Specifically, alchemists would press this symbol on hermetic books to emphasize the knowledge within as being protected and sacred.

These symbols represent power and life of the gun. People believe these are dark symbols but they are not. You see they represent power which is usually shows the sins if not used right.

Sins that show are avaritia(greed), ira(wrath), invidia(envy), superbia(pride). Which I believe is implied in the characters as well to a degree.
